Sunflower: It's meaning & symbolism | Blog (2024)

The florists in their bouquets and flower arrangements commonly use sunflowers as a late summer flower. It gives brightness and boldness, and joyfulness to the arrangement. With a good vase life and low maintenance, it soon became a popular and favorite flower among the florists and flower lovers.

Sunflowers are known for being "happy" flowers, making them the perfect gift to bring joy to someone's (or your) day.

Sunflower gets many meanings across the world, and here are the most common ones found in many cultures:

  • In Europe, it has a meaning of devotion
  • In China, it was a food of immortality, eaten by royalty. Also in China, it is a strong symbol of good luck and lasting happiness.
  • Long life
  • The feeling of adoration and admiration
  • Brightening your mood (no wonder with those vibrant yellow and orange color petals. In regards to the 7 chakras, yellow is thought to be a symbol of self-worth. Yellow is a color of creativity and provides us with a connection to our wisdom and reason.)
  • Nourishing yourself and others (Almost all varieties produce edible and good-tasting seeds with plenty of health benefits. If you don’t eat the seeds yourself, you can feed your local songbirds just by letting them dry on the stalk. The entire plant also produces a pale yellow dye.)
  • Seeking out positivity and strength. It is associated with warmth, power, and happiness since it bears a strong resemblance to the Sun itself
  • Spiritual knowledge and a worshiper's devotion to seeking the light of truth. It symbolizes faith and adoration for all that is, the true faith and loyalty to something that is much bigger and brighter than themselves. In esoteric Christianity, the sunflower is a symbol of God’s love.
  • It relates to self-respect, which means being authentic and embracing your own individuality.

Sunflowers call out to us to appreciate the great things, embrace and accept our differences while remaining positive.

The Sunflower's Message is:

Stand tall and follow your dreams. Focus on what's positive in your life and don't let anyone get you down.
