The social security number (SSN) is a nine-digit number issued to an individual by the Social Security Administration (SSA).

Social security numbers are considered invalid by the SSA when they meet any of the following criteria:

All zeros (000000000)

Consecutive digits in numerical order (123456789)
The first three digits are outside of the range specified by the SSA. This range is determined and updated by the SSA.

The Federal Tax Identification Number (Fed ID) is also known as an Employer Identification Number (EIN) and is issued by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to identify a business entity.

Federal identification numbers beginning with the following two digits are invalid:

00, 07, 08, 09, 17, 18, 19, 28, 29, 49, 78, 79, 89, 96, 97

The following Fed ID numbers are also considered invalid:
