The social security number (SSN) is a nine-digit number issued to an individual by the Social Security Administration (SSA).

Social security numbers are considered invalid by the SSA when they meet any of the following criteria:

The Federal Tax Identification Number (Fed ID) is also known as an Employer Identification Number (EIN) and is issued by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to identify a business entity.

Federal identification numbers beginning with the following two digits are invalid:

00, 07, 08, 09, 17, 18, 19, 28, 29, 49, 78, 79, 89, 96, 97

The following Fed ID numbers are also considered invalid:

111111111
222222222
333333333
444444444
555555555
666666666
777777777
888888888
999999999
000000000
