How would you like to save $1000 fast?

If you want to boost your emergency fund but have been struggling to find savings, it’s time to stop looking to cut expenses and start looking to make more money.

So what’s the best way to make money fast?

Sell your clutter!

Take a look around the room you’re in right now. I bet you can find at least 5 things you could sell without much effort.

Selling your stuff will not only help you earn some quick cash to buffer your budget, but you’ll also end up tidying up your environment along the way.

Sell Your Clutter One Room at a Time

You can probably find something to sell just about anywhere you look, but let’s streamline the process so you can take things slowly by looking one room at a time.

Your Kid’s Room

I find the easiest room to start with is my son’s room. It’s usually the most cluttered room and because he’s growing so fast, the room with the most outgrown things.

Here’s a list of some stuff from your kid’s room that you can sell to make money fast:

Depending on the age of your kids and how much you find in here, you could easily earn an extra $200 by selling the clutter in your kid’s room.

Your Bedroom

Because you’re in your own room so often, you’ve probably become blind to all the stuff around you. But there are several money-makers in this room too.

Check your room for the following things to sell:

  • Clothes
  • Jewelry
  • Furniture
  • Decorations

If you’ve got a taste for fashion, you may make out like a bandit by reselling some of your less worn items.

Unless you’re a t-shirt kinda person like me, I’m guessing you can quickly make an extra $100 just by selling your old clothes. If you’ve got the jewelry to match you could make even more money.

The Family Room

The family room is another area that gets used so often you may not recognize the clutter. There are a variety of items you can find in this room to sell for some quick cash.

Things to look for in your family room include:

  • Furniture
  • CDs or Vinyl Records
  • DVDs/Blu-Rays
  • Video Games
  • Vintage Tech (old gaming systems or electronics)

You may not get much more than the satisfaction of a tidier area when you purge a lot of your old DVDs and CDs, but selling the storage units they were housed in may bring in a bit more money.

You could probably get up to $100 clearing out your family room.

The Kitchen

The kitchen could be a potential goldmine if you’re a gadget junkie like me.

I find myself hoarding kitchen gadgets and tools that were meant to make life easier but just end up taking up space.

Kitchen clutter you can sell includes:

  • Small appliances (crockpots, blenders, food processors, etc.)
  • Unused dishes/collectable china
  • Vases and jars
  • Accessories for your appliances
  • Single purpose tools (apple corers, herb crushers, garlic press, etc)

Smaller appliances or specialty dishes and accessories are particularly nice finds. You could make up to $200 by selling these items online.

The Garage

I save the garage for last not because it’s the least valuable, but because if you’re anything like me, you have no idea what’s in there and the thought of sorting through it all makes you want to go back to bed.

But don’t let yourself be put off.

Your garage may be the most profitable room in your house. If you need to make some quick cash, this is the best place to look.

Things you can find to sell in your garage include:

  • Tools
  • Bikes
  • Sports Equipment
  • Camping Equipment
  • Old Electronics
  • Forgotten Collectables (comics, records, etc.)
  • Old college textbooks
  • Antiques
  • Furniture

The garage may be the last room you want to tackle if you’re feeling overwhelmed at the thought whenever you look at it. But the more you have, the more you can potentially make off of it.

You could probably find $500 worth of things to sell just waiting to be rediscovered, making it well worth the effort.

Time to Clear Out Your Clutter

Whether you’re in a bind looking for some quick cash or you just want to pad your savings a bit, the fastest source of extra money is in the things surrounding you.

Clear out your clutter and make some cash in the process by selling the things you no longer use.

Leave a comment to let me know the craziest or priciest thing you’ve ever sold!
