Parent reviews for The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD (2024)

Zelda isn't inappropriate, but it isn't for anyone

If you like heroes and villians, fantasy and medieval world's, and an immersive stroyline with a variety of characters then Zelda is right for you. If you know The Legend of Zelda at all you probably know it's usually referred to as simply Zelda. I'll be referring to the series as Zelda and the namesake as Princess Zelda. Twilight Princess is my absolute favorite, with Majora's Mask being second. I've played every Zelda game that's been released in the US. Twilight Princess has that special something that makes it an instant classic. If you have never played a Zelda game previously, I would not recommend Twilight Princess as your first. The storyline is arguable the darkest in the series; however it's the most well written. It has happy moments, heavy moments, romance, times of complete misery, and times that will warm your heart. You'll go to the deepest part of the world, you'll go to the "heavens", you'll solve puzzles of various difficulty, and you'll fight enemies of every kind including invisible ones. Twilight Princess picks up some 100 years after Orcarina of Time. Hyrule is now controlled by the twilight realm. It's a sad state of life to put it simply. The bright colors are replaced with a realistic color scheme. The cartoony design of the Wind Waker timeline is replaced with realistic character designs. This style gives an atmosphere of loneliness along with the overall emptiness of Hyrule. The music uses a full orchestra and it's fantastic. The music makes every feeling you're supposed to feel felt more deeply. As for characters, you play as Link who works to save Hyrule in both his human form and his wolf form. This Link is the strongest partly in thanks to a familiar face you'll meet. Your constant companion is Midna who's from the twilight realm and holds a secret. Zant, the main villian, is well written and has a surprising twist at the end. For female fans, Twilight Princess's Princess Zelda superb. Other Princess Zelda's are damsels in distress's or don't do much for the story. Twilight Princess Zelda is a royal worth respecting. The other characters have personalities and there are times when you'll feel as deeply about them as the main characters. For a younger child, I would recommend staying away from Twilight Princess. There isn't anything overly violent or sexual, but the difficulty could be too hard and the storyline would be lost. If you're a parent reading this, Twilight Princess is rated Teen and the rating is manly because of the atmosphere of the game instead of the fighting. If you're younger and Twilight Princess is your first Zelda game, I would recommend you holding off and starting with a game from the Wind Waker timeline. Those games are more user friendly and have a lighter storyline. If you are old enough to appreciate Twilight Princess, play it and see why it's considered the best game in the series by many fans and a well respected and reviewed game for everyone else. This review applies to every version of Twilight Princess.
