Wooden wicks should be waxed before use

False. They need to be used as you get them because waxing will not improve their burning. If they burn poorly, you need to look for other reasons: the wick may not be the right size or it may be undercut. Wooden wicks should be cut up to 3-5 mm above the wax (cotton wicks are recommended to be cut up to 5-7 mm).

Wooden wicks are harder to use than cotton

With the right choice of wooden wick, it is easier to make candles with them than with conventional cotton wicks. The wooden wick has a wide base, creating a wider burning area. If the wick melts the wax too quickly and smokes, its size should be reduced. The wax should melt to the edges in about two hours. To burn better, the wooden wick needs to be longer

It is best to shorten the wooden wick to about 3-5 mm to ensure a right flame. If the wick is chosen correctly according to the size of the vessel and the wax mixture, the flame will be beautiful. If the wick is too long, the wax will not reach the top of the wick and will not create a flame, so it will be extremely weak or will go out after a while.

Wooden wicks do not burn normally

This is influenced not only by the right choice of wick size, but also by the mixture of wax with all additives - fragrance or essential oils, dyes - and the amount of those additives in the wax.

Wooden wicks are not suitable for soy wax

Soy wax burns more slowly as any other vegetable wax, such as beeswax, so a well-chosen wick (both in width and thickness) is especially important. To make the flame stronger, a booster type wooden wick can be used, such as a complex of wide and narrow wick (1/3 of the size of the main wick) (booster-type wick) or two identical wicks put together in one wick holder (dual-type wick).
