Our experience at the best most affordable Cruise Excursion – Money Bar Beach Club

On our most recent visit to Cozumel, Mexico, we decided to try something different. In the past, we had booked excursions before we even got on the ship, after already embarking on the ship, and at times not until we were already in port. A friend who has a ton of cruise experience told us about Money Bar Beach Club, an amazing snorkeling and relaxing location that has free access. All we had to pay for was the taxi cab ride there.

We were a bit nervous but extremely excited. It was strange for us not having the excursion fully arranged especially since we had our boys with us and it was our first time taking them out of the country. But, it went great.

First, we walked off the ship and through the souvenir store your forced to go through. Then, we walked down to the cab rides. As we waited we talked with some fellow cruisers and talked about our adventures thus far. They asked if they could tag along to Money Bar and split the cab with us. They were very nice and fun to talk with.

Quick Travel Tip – Offline Maps.

I had previously downloaded an offline map of the whole island of Cozumel since I knew we would have no phone signal there. (For info on how to save an offline map in Google Maps check out our Travel Trip Video) The offline map helped us see exactly how far Money Bar was and that the cab driver was taking us the fastest way.

We quickly and safely arrived.

After a short cab ride, (maybe 10 minutes or so) we arrived at Money Bar. The cab cost us $11 USD and was totally worth it. Our initial reaction to Money Bar Beach Club was amazement. There is a large restaurant and Bar area with a view, plenty of beach chairs, tables with umbrellas, and that beautiful blue Cozumel water. We were surprised it wasn’t exactly a beach. They had some sand under the chairs but it ended at a rock wall with steps down to the ocean. But that was fine with us because our main goal was to snorkel and relax.

Things you need to bring to Money Bar Beach Club.

Cash’s favorite thing ever is swimming so he could not wait to get in the water. Little brother Cale has also become a little swimmer. So, before long we were in the water. Oh, and one thing to keep in mind, try to remember to bring your own snorkeling gear. It saves a ton of money and time by having your own gear to use. For similar snorkel gear and things you need to take to the beach, check out ourBeach Time Packing List , It includes other necessities such as life jackets, sunscreen, and other beach items to make your trip easier.

After we got all geared up and we hopped in the water. It was a bit chilly at first but we quickly got used to it. Cash was amazed at how many fish he saw swimming all around him. Cale loved feeling the waves and splashing around. He giggled each time Cash came up for air.

Money Bar Beach Club views from the sky.

Before long, Kayla swam with the boys while I flew my drone around. Before I took off I asked the staff if it was OK to fly my drone and they were glad that I did. Flying my drone around always makes me a bit nervous especially over the water. But it was so beautiful seeing everything from high in the sky. I could see the cruise ships and much of the clear blue ocean. Check out our Drone video below.

Then I got my goggles on and swam with Cash exploring the ocean for different types of fish. There were some large schools of silver fish, (I don’t know what specific kind) we also saw a Blue Tang, (Dory fish) and a colorful crab. It was exciting that the water was so clear and the fish didn’t stray too far away. It has been one of the best snorkeling locations we have ever visited.

Drinks and Food at Money Bar.

After we were all snorkeled out, we relaxed and drank some water. Kayla and I shared a margarita. The staff was very kind and fast. They smiled and waved at me as I walked around taking photos and videos and called me the Paparazzi. The drinks tasted good and our friends got some food they said was delicious. . We loved our time at Money Bar but it was time to see what else Mexico had to offer.

That looks like an amazing place, whether you have kids or not. I LOVE the pic of your little one in the wet suit. Great tip about downloading a map. I’d really like to visit Mexico – and Cozumel is not definitely on my list

Money Bar looks pretty cool! Thanks for the tip on downloading offline maps because data doesn’t really work in Cozumel. Also good to know that the Money Beach Bar doesn’t really have a proper beach but only opportunity to snorkel! I’m likely to go to Cozumel on a cruise so maybe I can just take a taxi to Money Bar and spend some time relaxing!

Shore excursions are so expensive and they do tend to hook you with the promise that you won’t get left behind. This place looks amazing, especially the clear water for snorkeling. What a great memory

Cozumel is well known for snorkelling and diving, it is a beautiful spot! I remember there weren’t many beaches but as you said as long as you’re there for the snorkelling it doesn’t matter. I’m glad you had such a good time!

  9. August 21, 2018 at 5:28 pm6 years ago

I would love to snorkel here – it looks incredible! It would be the perfect excuse to purchase all of the gear 🙂 I`ve been to Mexico but never to Cozumel. Next time, for sure!

I’m not a sit on the beach kind of person anyway, so I’d be all about the snorkeling. Curious about what food is available because I’m always famished after a good couple of hours snorkeling.
