Mohg, also known as the Lord of Blood and the Omen, is a major antagonist and secret boss in the 2022 action-RPG Elden Ring. He is one of the demigod children of Godfrey and Marika, and the twin brother of Morgott, both of which were Omen.

He was unique among most of the Shardbearers in that he planned to remove the Golden Order all together and transform the Lands Between into his own dynasty of Mohgwyn as the next Elden Lord. As a servant of the Formless Mother, he acts as its agent and intends to spread its very will across his dynasty.

He was voiced by Con O'Neill, who also voiced Titchy Gren in Dark Souls II.

Appearance[]

Mohg is a tall Omen, with many curved horns covering much of his face, one of which can be seen protruding into his left eye. He is dressed in a long red cloak and black robes adorned with many gold ornaments. He also carried a large staff which he uses to collect the blood of his fallen foes and add their power to his own.

Personality[]

In contrast to his twin brother Morgott, Mohg is a depraved and sinister individual. While Morgott acts as a guardian of the Golden Order that desires to protect the Erdtree and prevent anyone from becoming Elden Lord, Mohg harbours strong desires of becoming the Elden Lord and overthrowing the Golden Order in favor of his own rule. His non-excised horns suggest that he accepted his Omen nature and embraced it further by following down his own path of forming his very own dynasty.

Acting as a faithful servant of the Formless Mother, Mohg intends on completing his goal through sheer force, leading his very own cult that utilizes his disturbing blood rituals for such a purpose. His actions inspire many of his followers for the sole purpose of invading other worlds and inflict murderous bloodshed upon others. Likewise, his followers view him as a god of wisdom, to the point that some of his minions pray down on their knees for entrance to his palace while others, such as the Sanguine Nobles, wear horned masks and robes that mimic his appearance.

His most notable trait, however, is perhaps his lustful obsession for his half-brother, Miquella, who he intended to make his consort. His plan for Miquella was to originally have him replace their mother, Marika, as his new god for him to control and manipulate, but when he rejected him, Mohg resorted to kidnapping him and absorbed his blood from him, in order to start his ritual. It is also heavily implied from his Remembrance that Mohg's methods and treatment of Miquella were extremely forceful to the point that he had raped him, or at least attempted to in his bedchamber.

Biography[]

Mohg was a member of the Omen, a race of people born with accursed blood, alongside his twin brother Morgott. At some point in his life, he encountered the outer god known as the Formless Mother deep underground, who imbued his blood with the power of fire and allowed him to add others' power to his own by absorbing their blood.

After the Shattering of the Elden Ring, Mohg was one of many powerful individuals to claim shards of the Ring for themselves. However, unlike the other Shardbearers, he had no intention of becoming the Elden Lord of the Golden Order. Instead, he planned in secret to remove the state of rule over the Lands Between entirely and become its new ruler. As the war between the demigods raged, he slaughtered foes on the battlefield and absorbed their blood, accumulating their strength until he was one of the most powerful beings in the Lands Between. It was then that his plan was set into motion.

Mohg traveled to the northmost part of the Lands Between, to the base of the Haligtree. There, he found Miquella, brother of Malenia and one of the Empyreans. He kidnapped Miquella and took him to his underground palace, where he absorbed his blood, planning to turn him into a full god and use him as a puppet-king to take over the whole of the Lands Between. No matter how many times he shared his bedchamber, however, Miquella would not respond to him. His plan was eventually thwarted, as he was cut down by the Tarnished, who would later become the next Elden Lord.

Powers and Abilities[]

Due to Mohg's communion with an outer god known as the Formless Mother, he gained the ability to increase his own power by absorbing the blood of his enemies. He also possesses powerful blood and fire magic, which he usually combines to decimate his foes.

Mohg also possesses a large pair of wings, which he only shows against enemies who have proven themselves troublesome.

Quotes[]

Now I surrender yourself to my blood, to our coming dynasty! For all eternity.
~ Mohg's unused introduction dialogue.
Miquella is mine and mine alone.
~ Mohg should he defeat the Tarnished.
Ahh, I can see it, clear as day! The coming of our dynasty! Mohgwyn!
~ Mohg's last words.

Trivia[]

  • The Remembrance of the Blood Lord can be consumed for 30,000 Runes or handed to Enia to obtain either the Bloodboon Incantation or Mohgwyn's Sacred Spear.
  • Because he is the Lord of Blood, Mohg is essentially the reason for the existence of the Bloody Finger NPCs, as well as the PVP invasions.
  • Mohg has unused dialogue where he counts from six before casting the Bloodboon Ritual. In the final game, he only counts from three.
