Max Stanford is the new Oreo world record holder, after munching through an impressive 141 of the cream-filled biscuits in five minutes.
The 33-year-old, from Brixton, London, beat previous unofficial record, which was held by Canadian Jonathan Clarke, who managed 78Oreos, in five minutes.
As well as the title, Max got a £150 prize.
Organiser Craig Harker was inspired to bring competitive eating to the UK by the American TV show Man v. Food.
He hosts challenges at venues around the country, including his own pub, The George Pub and Grill, in Stockton-on-Tees, County Durham.
Craig laid on the unofficial challenge last week to see how manyOreobiscuits could be consumed in five minutes.
Pub landlord Craig, 33, said: ‘They are quite difficult biscuits to eat, so we let the eaters have a glass of water and some milk to dunk them into.
‘They all have their own techniques. Max was doing two at a time. It was a one bite, swallow sort of thing.
‘Another was doing four at a time. It was really quite something. When it gets going there really is a lot of emotion in the room.
‘Everyone is cheering them on and there’s a lot of passion flying about.’
Max emerged as the winner of the competition after chowing down an impressive 141 biscuits, followed by Kyle Gibson in second place with 137 and Dawesy, ‘The Beast’, in third with 81.
Craig’s events are getting increasingly popular and he now scores each winner with points – similar to the Grand Prix system.
He said: ‘Competitive eating is getting quite a lot of traction in the UK now.
‘Obviously because of Covid-19 it’s put a bit of a dampener on things but the appetite is still there.
