Is Malenia the hardest boss in Elden Ring? ›

The fight against Malenia is easily the most difficult encounter in Elden Ring, for reasons all over the spectrum from impressive to unfair.

Malenia was also born with a curse in the form of the "Scarlet Rot," a lethal blight that slowly degraded her body and infected anyone close to her.

Melina and Ranni are NPCs in Elden Ring, whereas Malenia is a boss, arguably the most challenging. Melina is the first to meet Elden Ring players in Limgrave and frequently appears when resting at sites of grace.

Malenia is made up of this same stuff and isn't unanimously hated, either; there is passion for a giant, red-haired woman in armor. Still, she is a contentious character subject to social media posts, memes, and arguments.

The recommended level for Malenia is 120 at least, ideally 125+, with weapons of +23 or more. You can't really be overleveled for this fight.

There's finally a way to cheese Malenia. Malenia, as you may know by now, is by far the toughest boss to beat in Elden Ring. Thankfully, FromSoftware showed us an iota mercy by making her optional boss, and put her all the way on a part of the map you don't even need to go near to complete the game.

Specifically, Malenia is one of two cursed twins born to Marika and Radagon, and has been afflicted with Scarlet Rot since birth. A Reddit user named legatii has used Elden Ring's character creator to create what they believe Malenia would have looked like without this Scarlet Rot curse.

According to players online, Malenia apparently self-heals whenever. She doesn't have to strike you to heal. She can just swing her sword at the air, hitting absolutely nothing, and still somehow regain some of her health.

Malenia is the daughter of Radagon and Marika.

She is also the twin brother of Miquella. As such, they formed an inseparable bond, and their two stories intertwine closely. Since Miquella always remains in the body of a child, Malenia swore to be his undefeated bodyguard, in order to keep her brother safe.

Ergo, Melina's eye could be somehow tied to the Dark Moon, and that could suggest Ranni's eye is tied to the Golden Order. This would be the inverse of their beliefs, explaining why they keep this eye closed.

Is Malenia related to Ranni? ›

Both are Empyreans who, like Ranni, were up to replace Marika and their names were Malenia and Miquella. Malenia inherited her father's red hair, and when the Shattering happened, she fought her half-brother Radahn over each other's Great Runes.

Queen Marika, mother of demi-gods, is Melina's mother, making Melina a demi-god and, therefore, Ranni's sister.

That's because Caelid is ravaged by something called Scarlet Rot. The creeping disease infects living things and pools in a huge, fetid swamp, resulting in a whole region filled with putrefying, monstrous creatures.

Malenia was born the child of Queen Marika the Eternal and her second husband, the Elden Lord Radagon. She had an elder twin brother by the name of Miquella. Both Malenia and Miquella were Empyreans, meaning they had the potential to one day replace their mother as a new god of a coming age.

The Loathsome Dung Eater is one of Elden Ring's most evil boss characters. His actions are horrific in-game and in lore, and players should fear him. Elden Ring takes place in a dark world, but Dung Eater stands out as terrifying even in such a setting.

Malenia, Goddess of Rot drops a hefty sum of 480,000 runes when defeated. You'll also be rewarded with the Remembrance of the Rot Goddess item, which can be exchanged at the Roundtable Hold for some powerful items and abilities, as well as Malenia's Great Rune.

The best melee strategy for beating Malenia is to use the biggest, baddest Greatsword you can find. Phase One Malenia is extremely staggerable, and you will likely be able to get two or three Critical Hits on her with Jumping attacks in the mix.

Ideally, you'd want a weapon with long reach so you don't have to get right up to Malenia, so consider benching the fists and hatchets for this fight. Shields are pretty much pointless unless you have incredibly high endurance, so you may want to dual wield or one-hand your weapon for extra damage.

Black Knife Tiche (get her here)– This is one of the best summons in the game and a perfect counter to Malenia. She will dodge enough so Malenia will not auto-feed health off of her on-hit, and her cursed blade move will do significant DPS and offset a lot of her healing.

This optional boss can be found at the bottom of the Haligree, and though fighting her is optional, you're going to want to take her down on your quest to prove that you're the true Elden Lord and score her Great Rune, which can be converted into one of the best weapons in the game.

It's certainly possible to defeat Malenia with a low-level character and weak weapons, but you'll have a much easier time if you prepare. For this fight, we advise coming to it when you're at least character level 100, with around 45 Vigor (the higher, the better) since Malenia has multiple one-hit-kill attacks.

Despite being considered one of Elden Ring's toughest bosses, with various strategies to defeat Malenia rising and falling, one increasingly guaranteed way to win the fight is by summoning Let Me Solo Her.

Finally! A new Elden Ring hotfix has nerfed boss Malenia after she was accidentally buffed in patch 1.04.
