Since mid-October, we have focused on promises of Jesus for believers. We explored Jesus’ promises which offer us his abiding presence, eternal life, the Holy Spirit, forgiveness, transcendent peace, truth that sets us free, answered prayers, love and joy, fruitfulness in good works, spiritual rewards, and a heavenly home.
These promises of Jesus become the realities of our salvation when we trust in his abiding, divine presence and transformative teachings. Atonement through Jesus is a gift for all people who repent of sin and trust their lives to him. Through Jesus, God redeems us, making known to us “the path of life.” (Psalm 16:11)
Psalm 23:1-3 also encourages: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want [suffer privation]. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.” As a Christ-follower, I am assured, “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19)
Furthermore, the Apostle Peter confirms: “His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him [Jesus] who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature [. . . .]” (2 Peter 1:3-4) Yes, “his precious and very great promises,” indeed!
The Apostle Paul states, “And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.” (1 Corinthians 9:8) When Paul wrote encouragement to Philippian Christians, he fervently declared, “I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13) As a recipient of Jesus’ promises, Paul could proclaim “And I am sure of this that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” (Philippians 1:6)
Thank you, God, for promises of salvation and victory through your son, Jesus. In words of Psalm 9:1-2: “I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart; I will recount all of your wonderful deeds [and promises]. I will be glad and exalt in you; I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.” Amen.
