I thought it was a sketchy idea, and I was happy with my typical 9-5 type job that basically everyone else has.
Then years and years go by, and it seems as though everywhere I looked, I was reading how bloggers were making all kinds of money.
I saw it on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and in random articles, I would stumble upon.
In every post, the same words kept popping up: affiliate marketing.
Finally, the question came to me.
What is affiliate marketing, and how to make money online through affiliate marketing?

What is affiliate marketing?
This is always the first question I get asked when I tell people that I blog full time.
The conversation usually goes along something like this:
Them: So what do you do for a living?
Me: I am a full-time blogger and freelance writer.
Them: (long awkward pause and puzzled look on their face)
So you make money from your blog?
Me: Yes
Them: How?
Me: I make most of my money through affiliate marketing.
This is usually when the next question, “what is affiliate marketing?’ is asked.
Affiliate marketing is actually quite easy.
To make money with affiliate marketing is a new idea to many.
Passive income from the internet seems like it is too good to be true- it is not, but there is some technique.
Let me explain.
So here’s the scoop on how to make money online with affiliate marketing-
When a blogger decides to become an affiliate, meaning they will make money from their blog or website, they agree to advertise a certain product or company.
They are assigned a special link that their readers can click on, and once you a reader clicks on the link and buys or submits their email or fills out a form that affiliate makes a commission.
This commission is at no cost to the reader. It is a commission check to the blogger (salesperson) for referring you (the reader) to that product.
With enough website traffic or affiliate links- usually paired together-it is a recipe for easy passive income for the blogger.
Most bloggers are selective in what affiliate markets they interact with.
When creating a post, it is tough to write a compelling review about something you have never tried or heard of- or, better yet, don’t like.
When a blogger is writing a review for something, it is usually their true and honest opinion. This makes sense for two reasons:
1. Any blogger is going to want to help the people who read their work. Lying about a product is not the way to gain a loyal fan following, and most bloggers know that.
2. it’s hard to write about something you don’t know or like.
So….Who is Michelle?
If you talk to most bloggers who take blogging seriously, they will have at least heard of Michelle Schroeder-Gardner.
