Large Flower Pots: Container Gardening (2024)

1. Prepare the Container

Select a large container with drainage holes in the bottom. Fill your container with top-quality potting soil to about six inches from the top.Miracle-Gro® Moisture Control® Potting Mixworks well in pots. If you're planting into a container filled with old, depleted soil from last year, addMiracle-Gro® Refresh™ Soil Revitalizer, following label directions, before planting. It is specially formulated to help restore soil structure, add essential nutrients, and renew water retention so your plants can thrive after planting.

2. Plan Your Arrangement

Don't plant willy-nilly. Arrange your plants in your container first without taking them out of their nursery pots. Move things around until you find a look you really like. It helps to put the tall plants in the center and the short and trailing ones along the edge.

3. Plant Your Flowers

Now that you have your arrangement, gently take your flowers out of their pots, loosen the roots and set them in your container. Fill in the spaces between them with potting soil.

4. Feed and Water

Water your containers thoroughly - until water runs out the drainage holes. Thirty days after planting, start feeding your container plants every 2 weeks. You can feed and water them at the same time usingMiracle-Gro® Liquafeed® All Purpose Plant Food. Finally, bring some friends over to enjoy your new garden.

5. Keep Your Containers Healthy

Large container gardens need a thorough watering at least once a week, and they thrive on regular feeding. And, if you remove the dead blooms off of your flowers, you'll enjoy more blossoms throughout the growing season.
