Groningen is a little city up in the north in the province Groningen. Known as a student city, it can sometimes be overlooked by the tourist who comes to see the Netherlands. The city is so wonderful, and while it gets overlooked, it’s a total gem (speaking from someone who has lived there). There are so many great photo spots the city has to offer, some that I don’t even know about! So today I want to share with you some Instagrammable spots in the city of Groningen. Reitdiephaven

This is a very loved spot by tourists and photographers and I’m sure you can see why. The colorful Scandinavian influenced houses are just picture perfect! There are so many angles to chose from to get the perfect shot.

Martini Tower

The very famous tower in Groningen, the Martini Tower! You can go on top of the tower to get a great photo and to see the city in a more aerial view. If you’re in Groningen, it’s a must to get a photo of the Martini Tower!

Fun fact: It’s illegal for any building to be taller than the Martini Tower.

Wisteria Hysteria

I only recently found out about this house. But in the late spring, it would be perfect to get a shot of the house. With this gorgeous purple wisteria, it’s hard not to. But please be respectful, this is a neighborhood and people do live in this house.

Great View from this Bridge

One of my favorite spots in the city, it’s just so cute! You get a great view of a cute canal, nice houses, and the beautiful church tower. This is on a little bridge, it’s not too far out of the city center.

The Cute Canals of Groningen

Like all the other Dutch cities and towns, you also have canals here which are picture-perfect for Instagram.

There are so many cute canals in the city, so the possibilities for a cute shot by a canal is endless.

Botanical Garden in Haren

Yes! There’s a botanical garden in Groningen (in the town of Haren) and it’s so nice! There is a little Chinese inspired garden, and there are so many beautiful flowers in bloom in the spring.

Prinsentuin

I absolutely love visiting this in the summertime. There are so many rose bushes and other beautiful summer flowers. It’s very small and my opinion its a total hidden gem in the city.

Parks such as Noordplatseon

I say get creative, parks are great spots for photos plus you get to see a bit of nature in the city. Groningen has quite a few parks, most of them are in the outskirts of the city, however, Noordplatseon is a big favorite for the locals, and a lot of events in the city happen there as well.

Groningen Central Station

The interior and exterior of the station is just marvelous and it shouldn’t be missed. You should definitely go inside the lobby area and check it out.

If you’re visiting Groningen, you should definitely check out the museum. The staircase in the museum are IG worthy on its own.

Murals

There aren’t very many murals in the city, I only know of two spots in the city where there is something present.

Park with a Cute Windmill

You don’t need to go to a village to see a windmill. This park has one! It’s quite far out of the city so make sure you can find reliable transportation to get there, such as a bike.

Flower Fields in Groningen

Flower fields up north are fairly rare, but they are indeed present. I, unfortunately, couldn’t find any tulips, however, I did manage to find a cute rapeseed field while searching for tulips. Do some research or ask some locals where they think tulip fields could be.

Shops, Cafes, and More!

There are so many IG worthy spots, some that I don’t even know! I say get creative with your shots too. But here are a small handful to accompany my photos.

-Black and Bloom(an espresso bar/cafe)
-Little Lovely Living They Have some of the cutest snacks and freakshakes
-Flower Markets (such as in the Vismarkt) There are so many cute flower shops, so you can find one anywhere
-Brouwerij Martinus (a brewery in the city)
