Tips for improving your baking skills

Now, this article is meant for the beginners and the professionals too! You guys know that I take care of each and everyone, haha. I am sure you will be trying out some recipes, so, why do you not go through some of the tips below that will aid you in improving your baking skills.

1.Step out of your comfort zone

If you have been someone who has always been interested in baking strictly cakes- this is the time to step into new doors! Improving your baking skills is a process that starts when you look beyond the already existing. I know that I would have never reached this stage in my life had I been comfortable with three full-proof recipes.Leaving your comfort zone ultimately helps you to deal with change—and making change in a much better way. Life transitions are all about change. Each time you transition you move to another level, you take your life to another level. I have observed how some people don’t wish to take on any effort for the next phase in their lives, and this is bad. Not being open to explore out of your comfort zone makes your thoughts and ideas stagnant and dormant. Getting out of your comfort zone is the most necessary thing for improving your baking skills.

2.Try out online baking and cooking workshops

Of course I understand that most of you may not have any prior training in cooking or baking. But, when I talk about improving your baking skills, I don’t mean that you take no help! Search Google or Instagram for online baking workshops. So many people are taking it nowadays. If you don’t get any follow live sessions that are being conducted by so many channels and chefs all over Instagram. Follow Youtube recipes to a T and just do it!

3.Follow eminent chef personalities and/or food bloggers to learn about recipes, tips, and tricks

I know my channel is all about baking but there are, if not million, then at-least a thousand Instagram profiles you can follow for recipe ideas! If you are someone who has no relation to the cooking and baking world AT ALL, even then there is something for you out there! Google famous chef personalities and land up on their page. Online recipes are being shared by literally every chef and blogger out there! What is truly a better way of improving your baking skills than following someone who is famous for their work all over? Not only this, eminent personalities are sharing each and every tip included in a recipe. Plus, most of them are also entertaining doubts and questions. What can be truly better?

4.Experimenting is the only way to learn

The period of quarantine is one in which no one expects you to really have all the ingredients available. You have no choice but to make the best of what you have at home. Plus, we all know that we have endless crazy cravings and we need to quench our desires by one way or another. If you do not experiment with the available ingredients at home, you’ll be left hungry and hangry too! That is why experimenting becomes essential. Plus, if you are a newbie at baking and you indulge in experimenting, your baking skills will be enhanced immediately! To give an example, if you don’t have a store-bought dulce de leche for your Banoffee Pie, boil milkmaid in a cooker to get a smooth caramel! If you don’t have milkmaid, make your own easy caramel and add some cornflour to thicken it up. This is the best way to be improving your baking skills!

5.Understanding your ingredients

Now, another cool way to be improving your baking skills is also learning about the ingredients you use while baking. Trust me, I have been baking since four years and I am still learning! For example, the sugar you use has so many variants. There are so many types of brown sugars, and of white sugar too. Did you know that granulated sugar is extremely difficult to blend into your batters? For the same it is the best thing to use caster sugar in your desserts? Now, of course, so many of you might not actually have caster sugar either. So, just grind that granulated sugar into a powder. This makes it easier for your batter to take in the sugar and give the perfect balance of sweetness to your dessert. Interesting, no? Similarly, when you read more about the smallest of your ingredients, you learn endlessly!

6. Be regular

All of your practice and effort will go into waste if you don’t invest in some time to baking even when this quarantine ends. Baking one easy dessert every week is not a big deal. Trust me. Baking is actually also very meditative. It keeps you engaged in one thing and of course, you get to taste heaven. This is something even the best type of meditation does not guarantee, haha. I do not want you to be invested in improving your baking skills throughout this lockdown if you are not going to put your understanding to use! Why? Because I wouldn’t want you to sow seeds that are dormant. You might think that it is easier for me to say because baking is my profession. But truly, I enjoy the process and I guarantee you that improving your baking skills this quarantine will be a decision you will never regret!
