Hyatt owns 20 brands with more than 1,345 properties in more than 134 countries across six continents. Its loyalty program is called World of Hyatt, which features four different tiers of membership and redeemable points at Hyatt hotels.

Many party-goers had been standing on the walkways when the disaster occurred. The collapse was caused by the failure of connections supporting the fourth-floor walkway ceiling rods. This walkway crashed onto the second-floor walkway directly beneath, which in its turn fell to the floor of the lobby.

A Root Cause Analysis of the Hyatt incident reveals a number of contributing causes. First, the structural design of the walkway was inadequate. A weld failed, allowing a support rod to pull through the box beam, causing the walkways to fall.

The event was triggered by a failure in the connection between a sup- porting rod and the box beam of the fourth floor walk- way. This disaster killed 114 people and injured approx- imately 200 more, which at the time was the deadliest structural collapse in U.S. history.
