To make your own reed diffuser oil, what do you need? You'll need diffuser reeds first (of course). They can be found at most craft stores, or even online. A jar or glass bottle large or small enough for the amount you are making. Next, you'll need a carrier oil. This can be anything from olive oil to jojoba oil to grapeseed oil. Basically, any light oil will do the trick. Finally, you'll need your favourite essential oil (or oils). Now let's get started.
The first step is to choose your essential oils. This is the fun part, because there are so many great options! Some popular diffuser oil scents include lavender, lemon, and peppermint. You can also mix and match different essential oils to create your own unique scent. Read after the recipe for notes on making that choice.
These oils will need to be mixed with a thin carrier oil such as fractionated coconut oil. The reason for that is that thinner carrier oils have an easier time travelling up the reed. While you might think you can use water, that would be a no starter since water and oil don't mix and your reed will only absorb water.
Carrier oils are cold-pressed fatty oils from plants. They provide viscosity and lubrication to any product that needs it, and as a bonus, they smell divine.
Add in a quarter cup of carrier oil, about 10-30 drops of the fragrant essential oils or fragrance oils of your choice, and use the reeds to mix. Now add a few reeds to the jar and fan them out to allow the scent to disperse freely. You’re done!
I like to flip the reeds every other day (or when I remember) to refresh the scent and allow the oil to move.
