Who am I to tell you all this?
My name is Lou and I have sold crochet products and patterns since 2014, and started my blog on 2017. I have created almost 100 pdf patterns for knitting and crochet and my work has been featured on magazines and the first issue of Make, by Our Maker Life.
I fell in love with crochet the first time I held a crochet hook in my hand. Very little time passed when I knew I wanted to do this for life. Even though I had a job that I loved at the moment, I knew I needed to make more money (since it was a part time job) and I knew I didn’t want to trade my valuable time for pennies in a big company. I have done this when I was younger and I am not willing to do it any more.
The story behind it
As the finance situation kept changing and salaries decreasing I became even more confident in my decision. So, I decided to take the leap and open my Etsy shop. A few years later I started my blog and you know what I see looking back?
That I should have started sooner! Although, I knew I wanted to do this, I was afraid. I was afraid of investing in myself. But know that I know that something like this is possible I wanna scream it from the rooftops.

And believe me, I know it’s hard, I‘ve been there. I was the one doing all the thing by myself. With tons and tons of research, and lot’s of reading on every piece of random info I could find out there.
There are so many things to know and hats to wear as a small business owner that you get lost. I managed to burn myself out and almost wanted to quit, but there’s actually an easier way. Yes, it’s a bit of investment, but in the end you have to ask yourself: Am I serious about my decision? Do I really want to do this?

On the other hand, I was nowhere near a total newbie when I joined CBA. I had a blog for 4.5 years and my online shops for about 7 years. And as I said before, I read A LOT! And have taken other courses before. Not specifically about crochet, but for all the other things a small business owner must know.
My hesitation was exactly that. That I wasn’t a newbie and maybe all the info inside was going to be obsolete to me as I would already know everything. Boy, I was wrong!
The first modules with all the info about finding your target customer was very useful to me as I still struggle myself finding the right balance between what I want and what my customers actually want.
Ok, I skipped the lessons where you open your Etsy shop and blog, etc, but not entirely. I read everything, remember? I was still able to find things to tweak, or improve, or things I have completely left out in the process of “I will do that later”.
Scaling your crochet business
And now I am learning more advanced stuff about scaling my business, diversifying my income, and automating any process I can to save myself some time. Difficult words, huh? It’s awesome! I love what I have learned so far and I can’t wait for what the future will bring for me and my business.
