Sandpaper and a paint scraper are both handy tools that can undo and fix painting mistakes on walls. Sandpaper with a very high grit number — or even a sanding sponge or block — can be used to remove brush marks, wrinkles and lint that transfers from a roller.

Solution: If the paint is still wet, try to dab or wipe with a damp cloth to remove the mess. Otherwise, allow the paint to dry completely, lightly sand the problem area, remove the dust with a cloth, and then touch up with a clean brush and paint.

If the paint is still wet, spray some glass cleaner on a small brush and wipe the marks away. If your paint is already dry, touch up the marks with white paint and a small brush.

Painting over old, uneven walls

If you own a dual-action polisher, you can make short work of DIY scratch removal. Simply apply four drops of Scratch Repair & Renew to your cutting pad, set the buffer to low and work the product over the scratch. Increase the polisher's RPMs as you work.

If the paint is applied excessively thick then wrinkling occurs. Grinning occurs when the undercoat and final coat are of different colors. Saponification of paints occurred when the painted surface is exposed to chemicals such as alkalis.

There are two methods of repairing a torn or punctured oil painting on canvas. The damaged area of the painting can be patched or the entire painting can be lined (adhered) onto a new supporting canvas.

Feathering creates a less noticeable transition between the new and old paint, which will help the touch-up spot blend into the wall. For areas under an inch in size, use a small foam brush to lightly dab paint onto the spot.

Make sure the paint is completely dry. Once it has dried, take a smooth piece of sandpaper and sand* paint down slightly until the surface is smooth. Repaint the surface and maintain a wet edge on your roller at all times. Move slowly, and don't be afraid to use more paint.

To cover the painting completely will take a minimum of two coats, even with artist quality paint. To paint sections will take longer because you won't have the coloured ground to fall back on. You will have to cover every area of the canvas.
