Quality content will always get you views and engagement, but it does not equal money. Read to the end to learn how to create and use your content to make money on social media.
The kind of content creator you are has a huge impact on how you need to create content, but I’m going to talk about the universal principles of content creation to help you monetize your social media.
As a reminder, the four creator types are influencer, UGC, freelancer, and business owner.
I have an entire post on creator types you can read if you’re curious about them.
Otherwise, I will start by clarifying some misconceptions about content creation.
Content creation is more than just experimentation until you find out how to benefit from social media and that too, on accident.
A lot of people do not expect to become profitable content creators and earn a full time income from it, but they end up doing it because they took the time to stick with their favorite social media platforms and show up for their audience.
These creators could easily coach others on how to become successful content creators like themselves like many of them do, but they can also choose to earn money through brand deals, sponsorships, and affiliate marketing.
The opportunities are endless once they find their groove as a creator.
Content creation is not easy. It is competitive and requires learning skills that are in the most demand in today’s economy. Experimentation plays a small part in content creation because the bulk of smart content creation is learning skills, doing competitor research, doing market research, having a niche if you choose to do so, and using your numbers to track your progress and drive your decisions.
Content creation is not about virality. Going viral is such an attractive goal for new content creators, but what they don’t realize is how going viral changes everything. You experience more pressure and stress to perform, to create, and to stay on top of everything. Even though you could go higher or lower, the expectation is you only continue to rise in popularity and influence or you become old news.
Now that I have dispelled some important myths and beliefs above, I will now share some insight into the secrets of quality content and how to optimize your earning potential from it.
The best content shares yourself in your best energy, vibing at your highest frequencies.
What does that mean?
Content creation is an energetic exchange between the creator and the viewer.
So many experts talk about the value of authenticity when creating content and that’s very true because the person watching will be able to know if you’re really being yourself or being someone else.
Humans naturally detect B.S., so good luck lying and trying to get away with it.
Ways to be in your best energy in your videos are to post when you are feeling positive feelings, post when you are most comfortable and active anyway, be confident, and lead with your actual personality.
The other underrated means of connecting with your audience is talking about what topics that you feel passionately about.
Content pillars are really key to help your content not only resonate with the right people, but to build an engaged audience.
Content pillars are the five major topics you discuss in your content that all share a common purpose.
Content purposes are education and entertainment as the most popular ones across all social media platforms, but there’s also inspiration, motivation, and emotional connection.
Emotional connection is the content purpose that allows you to make a lot of money, yet people most often overlook it.
Your content is a trigger for interested people who find you to eventually go through your marketing funnel and/or sales process.
The ways to make money using your content is to know your ideal audience, be relatable to them without sacrificing your authenticity, get them to like you, earn their trust, connect with them emotionally, position your offers as the perfect solution to their biggest problem through indirect selling methods, and make them believe in your expertise.
No matter what creator you are, no matter your niche, no matter your industry, and no matter your content value, you can only make money through marketing and sales on your social media.
Quality content will sell itself, but your sales depend on your ability to overcome objections to buying from you.
Overcoming objections comes from building strong, lasting relationships and creating superfans.
BONUS: The content you create doesn’t have to be this elaborate, pre-planned thing. Instead, the production can be simple and easy because you can share what you’re already doing and how you’re providing value on and off social media. Document a clear journey with a transformation that is relatable and inspirational even if it’s not entirely relevant to your main purposes and goals for creating content on social media.
