How To Brew Tea Directly In Milk

As the holiday season approaches, our customers often send us questions related to brewing tea in milk.

  • Is it recommended?
  • What are the brewing directions?
  • Which of our blends marry well with milk?

Drinking tea with milk is very popular, and yes, we recommend giving it a try if you haven’t already. Milk masks the tannins in tea that can sometimes cause it to taste bitter. By combining some of our loose tea blends with milk, the result can be tea that is incredibly smooth, creamy, and soothing.

If you’d like to give it a try, here are a couple things to keep in mind.

Water is neutral in taste, and has a thinner viscosity, so it doesn’t take much to transfer the flavor of the tea to the water. Milk is different, it is thicker, and has a flavor profile of its own, so for best results, we recommend using a tea with a strong flavor. Chai, Carmel, & Cocoa flavor teas combine well with milk.

Here are some of our favorites:
Pumpkin Chai Black Tea
Good Morning Yerba Mate
Carmel Cream Yerba Mate
Roasted Cocoa Yerba Mate
Roasted Pumpkin Yerba Mate
Tulsi Chai
Cinnamon Roll Black Tea
