Once you have the Shieldwing, you can glide by holding Square after jumping off a ledge. Hold the button until the circle fills next to the icon and Aloy will deploy the Shieldwing, slowing her decent and allowing her to glide further.

The in-game description of the Shieldwing reads: "The Shieldwing is an energy-based glider repurposed from machine technology." Horizon Forbidden West players can now jump off a high point (like a mountain, for example) and then hold the Square button while in the air to deploy the Shieldwing and glide through the sky.

If you want to know how to fly in Horizon Forbidden West, then you'll need to get hold of a Sunwing override which is available during the quest called The Wings of the Ten.

Go to one of the highest areas around the Base, where you have to go during one part of the Signal sidequest. Near some Sunwing grounds you can climb really high. Then just leap off towards the west.

Aloy will slide down slopes a long way (to Slide, hit the Crouch button while Sprinting). You can use this to quickly slip by machines, since Aloy is low to the ground and is technically crouching.

Before players can fly, they'll first need to complete the Gemini main story mission, during which, Aloy receives a Sunwing override key. They'll then have to initiate the Wings of the Ten mission, which begins with Aloy heading into the mountains near the base in order to find a Sunwing to override.

The main difference between letting her live or killing her is that if she lives, she'll accompany you in the final mission of the game during the assault on the Zeniths. It's a largely token gesture, adding more of a visual flourish than altering anything.

Once a machine's override is unlocked, approach it stealthily and hold down Triangle when prompted. Depending on its override abilities, the machine will fight for you for a limited duration, or it will become available as a ridable mount.

To use a Weapon Technique, players will first need to be aiming with their desired weapon. The button to use a technique is "R1" so hitting the button without aiming will cause Aloy to use her spear instead. When players are aiming down with their weapon, they can either tap or hold "R1" to use the ability.

In Horizon Forbidden West, the glide ability is a special tool called Shieldwing. Shieldwing is similar to mechanics from other games such as Breath of the Wild. Having the Shieldwing allows Aloy to safely fall from any height, and with some forward momentum, reaching ground level from major heights is incredibly easy.
