According to Bruni, the "golden ratio" for floral arranging is creating a visual where the arrangement is two-and-a-half sizes bigger than its container.

Scale in Floral Arrangements

Look at the size of the flowers and rotate them through the arrangement properly so they blend and become proportionate in scale. Use greenery in scale with the amount of flowers you put in an arrangement as well.

Sugar. Make your own preservative to keep cut flowers fresh longer. Dissolve 3 tablespoons sugar and 2 tablespoons white vinegar per quart (liter) of warm water. When you fill the vase, make sure the cut stems are covered by 3-4 inches (7-10 centimeters) of the prepared water.
