Here’s What To Do When Your Crush Likes Your Best Friend (2024)

So you've been eyeing that cutie in your class for quite a while now, and then your worst nightmare comes true! You find out they don't like you back. And to make things worse, they like your best friend. (Out of all people!) Before you panic and wallow for the rest of eternity, there are a few things you should consider. 1) It's not the end of the world and 2) You're not the first girl to involuntarily enter this tragic love triangle.

Seriously, just watch a few seconds of Riverdale. Yeah, Betty was bummed about Archie and Veronica's make-out session in the closet, but she managed to keep them as friends.

At the end of the day, we know exactly how you feel, and we want to help you get through this. So here's some advice if you want to move forward...

1. Accept their feelings.

First things first, you need to come to terms with the fact that your crush does not like you. And chances are, you can't change that. So instead of beating yourself up or asking yourself dozens of questions that you'll never have the answers to, understand that your crush's feelings are nothing personal. Easier said than done, but it's worth a try.

2. Be honest with both of them.

Because this is a sticky situation, you're going to want to communicate your feelings right from the start (and before they get worse!) to your crush AND your best friend. Whether you're mad, jealous, or hurt, say how you feel and say it soon. It'll be much easier to deal with this awkward scenario if everyone is on the same page.

3. Set boundaries.

Don't expect yourself to brush this off right away. Chances are, it's going to be really hard to watch your crush admire someone so close to you. The two might even start dating. Whatever they decide, take things at your own pace and remember to communicate how you're feeling. If you don't feel like grabbing coffee with the two of them right away, that's okay! The dynamics have clearly changed, and it's going to take time to adapt.

4. Invest time in yourself.

Now more than ever, you need to fuel your self-esteem and find things that make you happy. Whether you're reading the latest bestseller or bing-watching a new show, find an activity that gives you some alone time. The more you focus on you, the less you'll focus on them and you'll feel better for it.

5. Surround yourself with your squad.

Keep in mind, there's no good reason to shut yourself out! Once you've had enough time to reflect, get out there and plan a fun day with your fave friends. While you're swapping face masks or visiting your favorite museums, you'll forget all about the heartbreak, or at the very least, learn to laugh it off.
