Geo Hypostasis - Genshin Impact Guide - IGN (2024)

This Genshin Impact guide contains information on how to defeat the boss, Geo Hypostasis located in Guyun Stone Forest. The Geo Hypostasis is the Geo version of the hypostases that exists throughout the overworld. In addition, this guide will also provide several tips and tricks that will help you take down the Geo Hypostasis, as well as the rewards on offer.

Challenge the brick to a fight, and you’ll either come back shaken to your very core, or knock its own core back into the ground, netting some fine rewards for the few Geo-attuned characters currently in the game. Here's where to find it and how to beat it.

You can find the Geo Hypostasis off in the East of Liyue, on the top island of Guyun Stone Forest. It can be tricky to reach, but gliding from the cliff just west of Guyun Stone Forest should get you onto the first island. From there, swim or follow the shallow pathways bridging each island together to reach the boss arena.

The Geo Hypostasis will respawn a few minutes after its death and can be completed as many times as required in a week.

Geo Hypostasis’ main gimmick is its use of stone towers, It’ll summon five of these in total at the start of the fight - one in the center, and four around the edges of the arena. It’ll sit atop the center tower when summoned, putting it just out of reach of melee attackers. Ranged characters can get a bit of damage in here while the core is exposed, but not much.

You’re going to want to bring either a Claymore or Geo-based character to deal with this fight. Noelle works well.

The idea is to break the tower its currently sitting on, which more or less mandates a Claymore user or Geo-based attacks. If you decided to deal damage to the core when the first set of towers were summoned, get ready to dodge a ground pound when Geo Hypostasis blinks off to the side of its tower and takes on the form of a hammer. You can attack the core again right after this move.

When the boss returns from its vulnerable position, it’ll more than likely sit atop another tower and begin channeling energy into it, pushing the tower casing downward. This takes a few seconds, but once the tower is charged, it'll pump a shockwave through the ground beneath it, dealing considerable damage. Shield the hit and deal or run away before it charges.

After one blow, Geo Hypostasis will likely switch to another tower, delivering an eruption under your character as you make your way to it. It’ll be open to attack again after this but focus on lowering the HP of the towers if your ranged attacks aren’t too good.

At some point, the boss will instantly charge every tower with Geo energy, signaled by them rapidly vibrating. You can dodge the incoming shockwaves by sitting on the area edges perfectly between two outer towers, but what you should do is break the Geo crystal that forms by one tower. Breaking it creates a bubble shield on the ground that you can use to protect yourself from the quakes, giving you plenty of time to bash a tower down while they do their thing.

Whenever you manage to break a tower the boss is currently using as a stool, it will drop to the ground without its armor, rendering it open to your first damage burst for around 10-15 seconds. Ranged-heavy teams can get by dealing chip damage when it exposes itself on a tower, but melee-heavy teams need to focus on either bursting towers down the moment they’re occupied, or shaving their HP down between attacks so that they’re ready to break when the boss changes position.

The boss can technically help with this, too. At rare times (probably seen more if attacking from afar), Geo Hypostasis will begin shooting small stones at you. Take cover behind a tower to have it take the barrage. Don’t let it break, though. Just let it get low. Then finish it off whenever the boss decides to sit on it.

Like other Hypostasis enemies, Geo Hypostasis goes into a recovery mode at 5%. All you need to do here is destroy all three towers to finish it off.

Any left at the end of the phase will regenerate a large chunk of the boss’s HP, allowing it to continue the fight like back in Phase 1. But that’s ok. Unbroken towers retain damage across phases, so if you manage to break two and a half in the first recovery phase, you won’t have too much to kill the boss the next time it sits on the brink of death.

Defeating the Geo Hypostasis and spending 40 Original Resin gets you 200 Adventure XP, some Mora, and a few unique Character Ascension materials. On top of this you’ll get a random assortment of Artifacts:

  • Basalt Pillar
  • Prithiva Topaz Ascension Crystals (depending on world level can range from fragments to gemstones)
  • Instructor Artifacts
  • Traveling Doctor Artifacts
  • The Exile Artifacts
  • Gladiator’s Finale Artifacts
  • Wanderer’s Troupe Artifacts
