Sumeru will be the fourth nation of Teyvat you’ll get to explore in Genshin Impact, when it releases with update 3.0.

In the popular RPG’s world, Sumeru is a place of knowledge and nature, consisting of dense forests with massive plants as well as a vast desert. Culturally, the region is based on ancient civilizations such as Egypt, Babylon, Sumer, and India. Here’s everything we know about its characters, Dendro element, and release date so far.

Genshin Impact 3.0: Sumeru release

Sumeru will become playable with Genshin Impact’s 3.0 update. With version 2.8 starting soon, version 2.9 standing in-between, and a run time of about six weeks per version, you can expect Sumeru to be released sometime in Fall 2022, likely in October. Let’s hope that the developers will be able to stay on schedule without external conditions like Covid messing things up.

SPOILER ALERT: Please be advised that the following sections may contain spoilers for future story arcs.

Genshin Impact 3.0: Sumeru characters

Genshin Impact Sumeru: 3.0 Release Date, Characters, Dendro Reactions (3)

What characters can you expect to see in Sumeru? The following playable characters are confirmed:

  • Dori (Claymore, Electro) – a merchant from Sumeru.
  • Collei (Bow, Dendro) – an apprentice ranger from Sumeru.
  • Tighnari (Bow, Dendro) – an experienced ranger from Sumeru.

Nahida (unknown, Dendro) – the Alter Ego of Sumeru’s Archon.

While Dori uses the familiar Electro element, Collei and Tighnari use a power currently found in the game only on enemies and scheduled to become playable once Sumeru is released – the Dendro element.

These characters will be released as the Sumeru story arc progresses:

  • Dehya (Claymore, Pyro) – an Eremite mercenary.
  • Alhaitham (Sword, Dendro) – a scholar from the Academy.
  • Nilou (Sword, Hydro) – an artist and dancer from Sumeru.
  • Cyno (Polearm, Electro) – a scholar from the Academy.
  • Nahida (unknown, Dendro) – the Alter Ego of Sumeru’s Archon.

A new preview trailer has shown at least five new characters, which will become playable during the Sumeru story arc.

Nilou turned her back on wisdom and rationality, instead embracing artistry and dance, which is a peculiar choice for someone from Sumeru.

Genshin Impact 3.0: Dendro Element

The Dendro power is the seventh and final element that will be playable in Genshin Impact. In Sumeru, users will finally get access to it themselves, which in turn will unlock new elemental reactions that you can use to build powerful teams. Dendro enables the following reactions:

  • Burning – combination of Dendro and Pyro.
  • Bloom – combination of Dendro and Hydro.
  • Catalyze – combination of Dendro and Electro.
  • Burgeon – combination of Dendro, Hydro, and Pyro.
  • Hyperbloom – combination of Dendro, Hydro, and Electro.
  • Aggravate – combination of Dendro, Electro, and more Electro.
  • Spread – combination of Dendro, Electro, and more Dendro.

The Bloom reaction seems to produce collectible healing items in battle, while Catalyze may be boosting elemental reaction damage, though details are currently unknown. This duo adds to the already known interaction between Dendro and Pyro, Combustion.

Burning is already well known: This reaction results in sustained Pyro area damage and is exceedingly effective against Dendro targets. The other reactions, however, are brand new.

Bloom creates seeds, which in turn react with Pyro or Electro moves to trigger Burgeon or Hyperbloom. If you don’t use the seeds for such a reaction, they explode after a few seconds and cause Dendro damage. Burgeon causes the seeds to explode and deal Dendro damage; Hyperbloom makes the seeds create a series of homing projectiles that also deal Dendro damage to enemies.

Catalyze itself has no active effect, but sets the stage for Aggravate and Spread: if you attack a target suffering from Catalyze with Electro or Dendro moves, this attack deals additional damage by triggering the respective reactions.

When exploring Sumeru, these reactions play a large role, since they let you interact with the environment – certain plants can be burned to make room, while you’ll have to make others bloom to use them as jumping platforms.

In the fight against Sumeru’s Dendro creatures you’ll also have to pay attention to choosing the right reaction, since depending on the monsters’ status at the time of death, they’ll drop different materials. Therefore, you’ll probably have to form very specific teams to farm certain materials to level up Sumeru’s characters.

We’ll keep this article up to date with any additional information on Sumeru. In the meantime, be sure to check out update 2.8’s banners in order to not miss out on a character you may want to pull.

Genshin Impact 3.0: Sumeru Map

Sumeru is probably going to be the largest playable region in Genshin Impact so far and as mentioned it consists of two parts: a jungle area and a desert area.

The latest teaser has shown the dry environment for the first time, which is full of mysterious ruins and even contains massive sandstorms. The video also includes fresh scenes from the lush half of the land. These confirm the terrain’s enormous altitude differences, which should make exploration an interesting, if strenuous affair. Both halves of the region also contain massive ruin guard husks, which are explorable.

The map of the jungle area has already been leaked and shows how enormous Sumeru is going to be once it’s been released completely.
