Genshin Impact 2.4: Should you wish for Zhongli or Ganyu? (2024)
The second banner for Genshin Impact 2.4 will feature Zhongli and Ganyu. It’s quite the celebration for Lantern Rite, putting two of Genshin’s finest characters in the hands of more players. With two of Genshin Impact’s best units featured, which one should you Wish for?
The heavyweight Event Banner of the year is here. Both are paragons of their respective roles: Zhongli has the strongest Shields in the game and Ganyu has the highest DPS in the game. Let’s take a closer look at both of them to determine who’s best for your account and playstyle, and what characters they work well with that you may already have.
Zhongli
Event Wish "Gentry of Hermitage" - Boosted Drop Rate for "Vago Mundo" Zhongli (Geo)!
The Geo Archon returns with his second re-run, and he’s as strong as ever. Zhongli is a Geo Polearm user that specializes in creating Shields to protect and support your other characters. His Elemental Skill, Dominus Lapidis, creates a Stone Stele pillar that deals intermittent Geo damage in the area around it. Holding the Skill creates Zhongli’s signature Jade Shield, a powerful piece of kit that is Zhongli’s main utility.
The Shield’s strength scales from Zhongli’s Max HP and deals some damage when it’s made. It also drains Geo from two nearby enemy sources, great for destroying Shield and structures. His Passive Ascension Talents increase the strength of his Shield further. Zhongli is one of the only characters that can keep his Shield up permanently by recasting the Skill.
Perhaps the Jade Shield’s best ability is that it decreases the Elemental and Physical Resistance of nearby enemies. Notably, this is one of the only ways to directly debuff Anemo resistance, enabling DPS units like Xiao and some builds of Kazuha to excel. Of course, it’s good on just about any character as well.
With the Shield on, you don’t need to dodge enemy attacks. You can now tank them and keep attacking. This lets you also conserve stamina, a great boon to characters who rely on Charged Attacks like Klee, Ningguang, Yanfei, Ayaka and Keqing, or with characters that need to animation cancel for their optimal rotations like Hu Tao and Tartaglia.
This is even better for those playing on mobile or low-spec hardware. It’s difficult to dash on mobile touchscreen controls or when your old laptop or phone hitches during intense combat encounters.
Zhongli is also the key enabler for an all Geo team (I call it Rock Band). The Geo Elemental Resonance ability Enduring Rock increases Shield Strength, and increases a Shielded character’s damage by 15% and decreases the Geo Resistance of enemies hit by their attacks by 20% for 15 seconds. Combined with Zhongli’s Jade Shield, this allows Ningguang or Arataki Itto to deal high amounts of damage.
Ganyu is an overall better unit as she can deal damage consistently and deals very high damage but in Abyss you will need a healer/shielder for each team (unless you're actually good at dodging) so base your answer on that.

Therefore, if players are aiming for simplicity, then Ganyu is the easier character. But if they're aiming for more action in battle and a bit more challenge, then Xiao would be more satisfying to play.
With the proper support, Ganyu has the potential to be a player's greatest DPS character. The decision to pull for Zhongli or Ganyu is highly dependent on the player's individual needs and resources. Personal preferences and playstyles are also factors.
It depends on what you're looking for in your team. If you need a good Dps, I would continue to save for Ganyu. If you want a good support, Burst dps or sub dps, I would say pull for Raiden.
Other than that, his Elemental Skill can be an unreliable source of damage and Energy production because the AoE is too small. Players can widen the Skill's AoE, but they'll need more Geo constructs for it.
Unless you have a team of 4 characters that have tight synergy, he is almost always the best one to fill the 4th spot and gives a lot of breathing room for you to just focus on DPS and not worry about dodging as much. He was my first five star in the game last year, and I pulled him because I liked him.
While Zhongli C3 doesn't add any effect or enhance one, it does offer a buff for his core mechanic. As the best shielder in Genshin Impact, it's perfect for Zhongli to get an extra three levels on his Elemental Skill, which increases his shield's scaling.
Ganyu is one of the best DPS characters in Genshin Impact. Her versatility and ease of use put her among the most favored Genshin Impact units. However, many players found her straightforward playstyle “boring”, and thus choose to skip her banner despite the large damage potential she has.
9 Zhongli. You'll want to use this Geo-user on a Melt Team with Ganyu, not a Permafreeze Team, as he will highlight non-Cryo attack damage from fellow teammates.
Xiao, on the other hand, is a DPS that ranks either third or fourth place (depending on who you ask), below Ganyu (obviously first place), Hu Tao, and/or Eula.
in your team, kazuha could replace rosaria, while ganyu doesn't fit into the team that well since you don't want to replace diluc - who i'm guessing is your main dps - and he takes the role that ganyu is best at. ultimately though, you should choose whoever you like more.
To answer the actual question it would be Ganyu. Since the real Genshin meta is constantly shifting but doesn't require intensely strong characters to clear.
Ganyu is more individually impressive, but her team ceiling isn't as high without specific support options (namely Venti and Mona) so she won't slap as hard as Childe's teams, which are also more affordable because of his plethora of 4* options.
Diluc, by far. Zhongli isn't really a DPS, nor is he meant to be one. Diluc offers consistent damage and good elemental reactions, while Zhongli is more meant to be a shield character and a burst DPS.
