How Long Does It Take To Build a Fence?
Fence-building is generally a custom job. Hence, you have to understand that multiple factors contribute to the duration of any fencing project.
Building a simple wooden fence around a 100 to a 200-foot yard with normal ground conditions takes between two and four days.
This estimate includes removal of the old fence and post-installation clean-up. But it does not take into account some of the common adjustments made during fence installation projects.
Any homeowner can accurately estimate the amount of time a fence installation project will take up by adjusting for the following factors:
- Yard Size. An average-sized yard requires between 100 and 200 feet of fencing. If your yard is significantly smaller or larger, adjust the project’s timeframe proportionately.
- Workday Weather. Fence installation is a manually intensive process. Installers working on a bright, sunny day will always get more done than those working in wet or snowy weather.
- Design Complexity. Simple fences are easier to install than complex ones. If you want a customized wooden fence, you will have to allow extra time for the custom woodwork to be complete.
- Ground Conditions. If our installers run into underground boulders, concrete slabs, thick tree roots, or clay deposits, these conditions will impact the installation. In some cases, the process of removing these obstacles doubles the time it takes to complete fence installation.
- Property Location. Travel time over multiple 8-hour workdays can add up, making extra days necessary when working on distant properties.
- Material Delays. Homeowners looking for specialty materials may have to wait for those to arrive in stock. Our team is usually capable of obtaining materials within established deadlines, but this depends on the material’s availability and the shipping distance.
- Number of Gates. Simple fencing projects include one or two gates. Projects that require more gates will extend beyond the established timeframe because gates take longer to install than fence portions.
- Retaining Walls and Other Extras. Building a simple fence on flat-terrain is very different than building retaining walls or other more sophisticated structures. These can add days to installation time based on the unique aspects of the landscape in question.
