Ethical Fall Fashion Collections 2022: Our Picks (2024)

Our picks of the ethical fall fashion collections for this year will make you glad summer’s over!

By Chiara Spagnoli Gabardi

We don’t really ‘do’ seasonal trends here at Eluxe. Because that just encourages, you know – needless overconsumption to keep up with ‘fashion’. But there can be no denying that as the weather gets chillier, it’s time to add some heavier clothing to your closet.

What we did notice from keeping our eye on the so-called trends from the fashion runways this season, though, is that it seems fashion is finally changing.

For example? Menswear and womenswear are being presented together on the runways. Brands are questioning the very notion of seasons (finally!). And of course, more ethical fall fashion collections are being shown, as consumers increasingly demand clothing made with sustainable fabrics and by circular production methods.

Our picks for the ethical fall fashion collections this year are more sustainable than ever. Everything from innovative production methods to the use of all-natural, ethically sourced fabrics were used to create wardrobe must-haves for the chillier season.

Whether you’re after a cosy sweater, statement trousers, or just a basic work shirt, you’ll find it here in our picks of the ethical fall fashion collections.

Our Picks Of Sustainable Fall Fashion For 2022

Ethical Fall Fashion Collections 2022: Our Picks (1)

1. Flowery Blouses

Ethically made in India, using artisanal block print techniques, this colourful blouse is one of our fave picks from the ethical fall fashion collections.

This top by Wearwell has an oversized fit that’s super chic when paired with jeans and a partial front tuck. We’d accessorise it with a felt cowboy hat and a tiny crystal necklace. Maybe an ethically sourced ruby?

Wearwell goes well beyond blouses! This is a one-stop shop for all your sustainable fashion needs. Think: exercise gear, jewellery, and home wear. Plus, everything is affordable, and size inclusive, too!

What we love most: Blouses can easily be dressed up for work, with a skirt or a pair of power pants (see point 3). Or, you can dress them down with jeans, as in the pic below!

2. Denim Jackets

Yep, we know. Denim is one of the most polluting fabrics on Earth. Usually, that is! But these classic jean jackets by Etica are different. They feature authentic trucker details and slim side pockets. And that’s not the best part! They’re all made from 25% TENCEL, a cellulose fibre made from a renewable wood source, requiring very little water, no pesticides, and no harmful irrigation. The other 75% is organic cotton.

What we love most: Jean jackets are one of our picks from the ethical fall fashion collections because they’re perfect for those in-between temps. Like, when you don’t quite need a coat, but a shirt isn’t warm enough.

3. Baggy Power Pants

Sick to death of wearing jeans? Want something on your bottom that’s comfy, roomy and sustainable? It’s time to get yourself some baggy power pants!

These pair perfectly with everything from simple tees to oversized sweaters. Weather still warm? Wear them with sandals. Freezing out there? No worries – they’re the perfect companion for boots, too.

Reformation is making these trousers from TENCEL™ Lyocell. In case you didn’t know, this comes from Eucalyptus trees, which take only half an acre to produce one ton of fibre. It’s closed loop production means 99% of the non-toxic solvent is reused. Yay! Plus, these trousers come in 9 colours to choose from.

What we love most: The cut of these pants is super classic, meaning these should be in your wardrobe for years to come.

4. Puffed Vegan Leather Bags

Sure, quilted bags are great. But when they’re supersized into full on puffa bags, they’re even greater! And that’s especially true when we’re talking vegan bags.

This Maze style by JW Pei is one of our favourite picks from the ethical fall fashion collections. It can be worn crossbody or as a handheld purse.

What we love most: The whole collection is 100% cruelty free, ethically made, and this crossbody bag goes with everything!

5. Midi Length Denim Skirts

Jeans are great, sure. But our picks from this season’s ethical fall fashion collections also include skirts! And this high rise midi jean skirt by Reformation is one of our favourites.

It boasts the perfect length for the season. It’s made from non-stretch denim that’s 60% organically grown cotton and 40% TENCEL x REFIBRA Lyocell. Organic cotton fabric is fab. It doesn’t allow genetically modified seeds and restricts the use of many chemicals. It still uses water and land but it helps sustain the land it is grown on through crop rotations and natural ways of controlling pesticides.

Wear yours with tall vegan boots and a tank top or sweater – depending on the weather!

What we love most: We love the retro 70s vibe of this skirt. The high waist means you can wear this with a tucked in top, or a baggy sweater. You decide!

6. Tall Boots

Dior, Miu Miu and Bottega Vaneta are but a few of the brands that showed tall boots on the catwalk this year. But our favourite example? Stella McCartney’s, of course!

Crafted from a butter-soft vegan alternative to animal leather, her cowboy boots blend tradition with innovation. They feature a Cuban heel and a loose fit around the calf. These look great with everything from jeans and a polo neck sweater to your favourite mini or midi dress.

What we love the most: Tall boots mean you can wear dresses in autumn, and still keep your legs warm!

7. Pointy Ballet Flats

All those trousers, sweaters and wraps mentioned above are lovely. But what will you wear on your feet when sporting the ethical fall fashion collections? How about some pointy ballet flats? They’re a new classic, and they go with everything! Plus, Meghan Markle loves them, so….

You can find yours (and Meghan’s!) at Rothy’s. This brand purveys an incredible collection of chic sneakers, trainers and flats that not only look amazing with any fall outfit, but are also super-eco-friendly. They’re created from bottles and other plastic refuse that was rescued from over 30 miles of coastline. But that’s not all: Rothy’s uses a zero-waste, 3D knitting technique to create their styles, too.

What we love most: All of Rothy’s shoes are 100% vegan friendly!

8. Tops With Statement Sleeves

This is one ethical fall fashion trend that’s not going anywhere for awhile. And we’re super glad about that! Whether they’re long and flowing or short and puffy, statement sleeves have a touch of retro cool, and suit everyone.

For example? This Bardot top, by NATION LTD below. It has a low carbon footprint, since their garments go from seed to tee shirt, all done ethically in Peru. This minimises supply chain pollution from transportation, but that’s not all! These tops are made from Pima Cotton, which is native to Peru and uses 50% less water than traditional cotton.

What we love most: The elasticised torso in this top means most of us can go braless without too much jiggle. Whoop!

Ethical Fall Fashion Collections 2022: Our Picks (9)

9. Chunky Chains

According to jewelry experts, 80s inspired chunky gold chains are back! Whether they’re worn as bracelets or necklaces, they’ll add a bit of bling to any outfit. Just make sure they’re ethical!

We particularly like Laura Lombardi’s work, as it’s made from a mix of new, recycled and reclaimed metals. No wonder Emma Watson and Tracee Ellis Ross are fans….

What we love most: These look so great when mixed and matched with pieces of various sizes.

Ethical Fall Fashion Collections 2022: Our Picks (10)

10. Linen Clothing

When it comes to the cooler months, comfort matters as much as quality. We might normally think of linen as being for summer, but that’s not quite right!

Linen is perfect for fall. It works in both hotter and cooler weather, as Ma + Lin proves to us. This is a new brand in the world of ethical fashion that makes beautiful tops and blouses, They’re all inspired by slow fashion and sustainability, are only created on demand, and are made to last. They’re the perfect staple for your capsule wardrobe!

What we love most: Linen takes up dye so easily, it’s pretty common for brands to use colours derived from plants, not chemicals.
