Going for your first wax? Here are all the questions that you’re dying to ask your wax therapist but think are too embarrassing to say out loud.

Will I have to take off my underwear for a basic bikini wax?

You can keep your underwear on, or wear disposable panties, during a basic bikini wax where hair is removed from the top and sides of the bikini area.

What about a Brazilian or Hollywood wax?

These popular waxes involve removing almost (Brazilian) or all (Hollywood) your pubic hair. The hair between the buttocks is also removed so you’ll need to remove your underwear and bring your knees up towards your chest. However, some therapists will work around you if you feel uncomfortable. For example, you can pull your panties to one side until the hair is removed from that area before covering it up again and doing the same on the other side. Your therapist will have done hundreds of these treatments before and won’t judge you.

Should I trim my pubic hair before a Brazilian wax? And how long is too long?

Up to 1/2 inch should be fine. If your hair is any longer you may feel some discomfort when the wax is applied. It will also make it trickier for your therapist to get the job done. Trim excess hair down beforehand or shave and wait a couple of weeks for it to grow back before returning to the salon.

Is it normal to get your face waxed?

Yes! Lots of women get their whole face or parts of their face waxed. Upper lip, chin and neck hair removal is very popular and leaves the face looking clean and fresh.

Can I get a bikini wax if I’m on my period?

Yes you can, but bear it in mind that waxing might feel slightly more uncomfortable around your time of the month because hormone changes can affect your pain threshold.

Am I too hairy to get waxed?

No! Your therapist has seen hundreds of clients from those who have little hair growth to those who have a lot. Simply, trim down your hair beforehand if it’s slightly long to make the waxing experience more comfortable. Your therapist will take care of the rest. Also, remember that with regular waxing your hair will soon begin to feel thinner and sparser unlike shaving, which can leave the hair feeling stubbly, thick and itchy.

  1. Basic Bikini Wax:

    • Question: Will I have to take off my underwear for a basic bikini wax?

    • Question: What about a Brazilian or Hollywood wax?
    • Answer: For a Brazilian wax, which involves removing almost all pubic hair, and a Hollywood wax, which removes all pubic hair, you will need to remove your underwear. The hair between the buttocks is also removed, so bringing your knees up towards your chest is required. 3. Preparation for Brazilian Wax:

    • Question: Should I trim my pubic hair before a Brazilian wax? And how long is too long?
