Membership

Drone Cover Club Membership is available to all persons resident in the United Kingdom (defined as England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, Channel Islands) and the Republic of Ireland.

Overseas visitors may purchase a temporary Visitor Membership (30 days) and which provides insurance benefits for drones and model aircraft pilots within the UK only. Visitor Memberships cannot be bought in conjunction with the EU or Worldwide extensions and are subject to a minimum of 5 days notice period prior to the membership commencing.

Drone Insurance UK | Specialist Public Liability Hobby Drone Cover (1)

Members do not have a direct 'Insured to Insurer/Underwriter' relationship with the underwriters of DCC's Master Policies. Claims must be made through DCC, using current claim procedures, and will be processed under policies in effect on the date of the occurrence, as per policies T's and C's.

Do I need insurance to fly a drone?

If you are a commercial drone operator in the UK, you are legally required to hold public liability insurance. It is highly recommended that hobby pilots also hold 3rd party public liability insurance for recreational drone flying. This will cover you in the event that your drone causes damage to another person’s property or injures a member of the public. It is also a good idea to have Personal Accident insurance in case you injure yourself whilst out flying. Depending on the value of your drone, you may also wish to consider cover for accidental damage, loss and theft.

What insurance companies cover drones?

Whilst some home insurance companies may cover damage to quadcopters, drones and model aircraft under their contents cover it is always best to get your drone insurance from a specialist provider who includes public liability insurance and will be able to assist with any specific, drone related, enquiries you may have.

What types of aerial vehicles are covered by DCC?

DCC's Master Insurance Policies cover "recreational flying of Multirotor and Fixed Wing Remote Controlled Model Aircraft up to 7kg". You may refer to your Drone or Model Aircraft by a different name but no matter whether you have a Drone, Quadcopter, Fixed Wing Aircraft, UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle), a UAS (Unmanned Aircraft System) or a RPAS (Remotely Piloted Aircraft System) our recreational drone cover will ensure that you can fly your vehicle with confidence. DCC insurances cover all brands and models of drone up to 7kg; so if you are looking for DJI Drone Insurance or insurance for another brand such as Parrot, Yuneec or even a custom built drone, we can cover you.

How much does drone insurance cost?

Costs for drone insurance in the UK vary depending on the type of cover you require and the length of the term. Drone Cover Clubdrone insurance starts at £18.95 for a 2 day cover period but our annual membership provides our best value cover at £29.95 for the entire year.

What insurance do I need to fly my drone abroad?

Obligations for drone insurance vary from country to country, many countries have a legal requirement for public liability insurancewhen flying your drone recreationally. Please ensure you have researched insurance requirements for the countries you are visiting before you travel. Drone Cover Club offers optional EU and Worldwide drone insurance travel extensions which can be added to any membership to provide public liability drone insurance when flying your drone abroad. Our EU travel extension gives you drone insurance in Europe, whilst the worldwide travel extension covers you in any country in the world including up to 90 days in the USA or Canada.
