I’ve finally solved a serious problem with my wreaths swinging against our windows tearing the screens and making a scraping noise that keeps us up at night. I invented my own DIY “No Swing” wreath hanger. Every once in awhile I have a lightbulb moment and come up with a brilliant idea that I just have to share with everyone.
Last year was the first Christmas that I used wreaths on all the outside windows. I liked the look other than I used ivory ribbon, and that just didn’t do it justice or pop against the logs so I made a mental note to switch to red ribbon this year. I even found the ribbon on clearance last season and put it away for this year.
Loved the look……hated the swinging! On the second story the wreath outside our bedroom window (over the headboard) would scrape against the screen all night long if there was any wind at all. Let’s just say Hubby was anxiously counting down the days until Christmas was over so the wreaths could come down and he could get a full night’s sleep.
So I put on my thinking cap and came up with this easy DIY way to solve the problem that’s inexpensive too, all I needed to do the job was a roll of fishing line.
Here’s what I did
- Adda small cup hook to the top and bottom piece of the trim, centered over each window.
- Attache the red ribbon to the wreath and loop it over the top cup hook.
- Use fishing line just like I did the ribbon and attach it to the bottom cup hook, pulling it tight and tying it off to the cup hook.
If you look closely to the photo above you can see the faint line of the fishing line holding the wreath from swinging. Problem solved!! I even leave the cup hooks up year round so I don’t have to redo them every year. I have them painted the same color as the trim so they blend right in and no one notices them in the off seasons.
