Cal Demuth is a character in the 2019 film, In the Tall Grass (film), based on the novella by Stephen King. He is played by Avery Whitted in the film. In the film version of the book, he is in love with his sister Becky Demuth.

Cal and Becky Demuth are inseparable siblings (they were born 19 months apart and are called Irish twins by their parents). Becky finds out during her freshman year of college that she is pregnant, leading the twins' parents to suggest she go live with her aunt and uncle until the baby is born.

Becky realizes that "Cal" is Ross. Tobin finds Travis and tells him that Ross killed both the baby and Cal, and will keep killing them repeatedly. They are confronted by Ross, who mortally wounds Travis. As Ross attempts to force Tobin to touch the rock, Becky attacks him before dying from her wounds.

As such, it's Cal who tricks Becky into eating her baby, as she was weak and dehydrated and needed to get her strength back. After realizing what she did, Cal and Tobin tell her that if she touches the rock, she'll see that the baby is fine, understand the grass, and become part of it, as they have.

Though it really was Cal who fed his sister her baby in the story, in the movie, Becky is hallucinating. She sees Cal, but it's actually Tobin's unhinged father Ross. In the novella, everyone in the grass—Ross, Tobin, Becky, and Cal—goes insane.

Cal and Merrin's romantic relationship blossomed over the course of the game, and in the end, Cal says that the Jedi Order is gone and that he wants to be with Merrin now.

In the Tall Grass' central villain is a rock in the middle of a field of tall grass. It seems simple enough: the rock—referred to in the film as the Black Rock—craves human sacrifices.

Not even if you hear the faint cries of someone in need. Not even if you're a Gryffindor at heart, and can't pass by a chance to be a hero.

After Cal touched the rock, he tricks Becky into eating her own miscarried baby. That element of In the Tall Grass is also even more upsetting than the movie, as Ross Humboldt forces the miscarriage by repeatedly kicking her in the stomach.

Meanwhile, the father of Becky's child, Travis, arrives looking for her and Cal. He finds their car parked outside the church and investigates the field of grass, eventually stumbling across Tobin, who implies that they already know each other, leads him to Becky's rotting corpse.

There are some violent and gory moments, including scenes in which a woman is killed when someone presses her skull together, a character stabbing another in the eye with fingernail scissors, and stabbings. A character falls to his death and another is choked to death.

Basically when people touch the rock they become blood hungry demons-like creatures who are captivated by the grass. Their souls are trapped in the field forever and they trick other people in. They are then forced to relive the same tragic fate over and over again at the hands of Ross and the other grass-faced people.

In the end, this movie definitely lived up to the hype for me. It had some solid performances, some 'WTF' moments, a disturbing plot, and some great blood and gore.

In Cal's backstory, we learn that he and his best friend Derek were secretly in love with each other but Cal broke off contact with Derek after getting his girlfriend Marsha pregnant. Now, Euphoria fans have spotted something that suggests that Marsha actively worked to end Cal and Derek's relationship.

In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Eric was asked if he still thinks that Cal and Derek keep in touch. In response, Eric stated: "No, I think they went their separate ways. I think once Cal settled in with Marsha in those circ*mstances, he completely blocked out everything from that part of his life."

Becky loses consciousness again and wakes up to find Cal feeding her something. She asks what she's eating and he replies, "Grass. Just grass." Too late, Becky realizes that the food tastes familiar because it tastes like her, and Cal has been feeding her pieces of her own baby.
