Can you recycle bubble wrap in London? ›

Dispose. You can't recycle bubble wrap in your mixed recycling, please put it in your general waste.

If you have space, the best thing you can do with bubble wrap is hold onto it and reuse it another time. Alternatively, it can go in the rubbish bin, or you can take it to a recycling collection point.

How to Recycle Bubble Wrap. Bubble wrap can be recycled alongside other plastic films, like plastic bags, at designated recycling bins.

Use at least two blue boxes for curbside recycling, and keep paper and containers (plastic, metal, glass, laminated cups and cartons) separated. Place recyclables at the curbside by 7 a.m., but no earlier than 6 p.m. the night before collection day. Empty and rinse containers.

Soft plastic refers to grocery bags, bread bags, bubble wrap, plastic wrappers of products such as biscuits, chips, anything you buy that has a soft plastic sheath. Soft plastic CAN be recycled. Clean and gather your bags and wrappers and take them to your nearest participating store.

Can envelopes with bubble wrap be recycled? Envelopes with bubble wrap such as padded envelopes, jiffy bags or bubble bags cannot be recycled due to them being made of multiple materials (paper, plastic & other materials).

Are envelopes with bubble wrap inside recyclable? ›

If the padded envelope is padded with what looks like shredded newsprint, you can toss the whole thing in your recycling bin. If the envelope is padded with bubble wrap or plastic, the envelope cannot be recycled in your curbside bin. However, the plastic can usually be returned where you would take your plastic bags.

Bubble wrap is not currently recyclable, and it can take from 10 to 1000 years to decompose once it is in landfill.

Shoppers can recycle the following: carrier bags; bread bags; frozen food bags; delivery bags; cereal liners; toilet roll wrapping; salad, pasta and rice bags; cheese fish and meat wrapping; crisps, biscuit and chocolate wrapping; baby and pet food pouches; bubble wrap; and cling film.

We now collect soft plastics for recycling like bread bags, frozen vegetable wrappers, and toilet roll wrapping in all our larger stores. We recycle as much as we can into new products and packaging to keep it out of landfill.

The supermarket chain told Newsround it offered recycling for plastic at all of its stores and it was still committed to helping customers in their "efforts to help the planet" but it wanted to "avoid duplicating the recycling services offered by local councils".

Wrapping paper can only be recycled if it passes the 'scrunch test'. If you scrunch the paper and it springs back open, it's made from mixed materials and should go in your rubbish bin. If it passes the test, make sure you remove any sticky tape!

Blister packs unfortunately can't go in your home recycling collection, but they can still be recycled. They're made up of plastic and other materials, and plastic packaging in the UK accounts for nearly 70% of our plastic waste, so it's worth doing!

You can already recycle some of these at collection points in many larger supermarkets. They accept carrier bags and the wrappers from kitchen and toilet rolls which may be labelled as PE (polyethylene). Some supermarkets have now started to collect a wider range of films made from PP (polypropylene).
