June’s Journeybelongs to the hidden objects genre, which is inspired by games like Where’s Waldo? The PC version of this game genre is even more challenging than its paperback ancestors because developers have come up with creative ways to make the game trickier. Aside from that, June’s Journey also adds a few other game features that are not usually part of hidden objects games that can confuse a lot of new players. Luckily, this beginner’s guide tries to explain how those features work.
The game has a lot of mechanics that are not standard in a lot of game genres. For example, the requirements for unlocking new puzzles are not limited to finishing parts of the main story, there are other ways to unlock new stages and even new game modes. If you’re a player that has just begun playing the game, you might want to read this guide until the end so that you don’t end up getting confused about how June’s Journey works. Here are some basic tips that you need to know:
The Main Story
The Main Story is where players will be solving most of the puzzles. It is narrative-driven, following the story of June, who is trying to solve the mystery of how her sister and her husband died while away on a trip. As the player progresses through various puzzles, they unlock new parts of the story to learn any inconsistencies in the way the police described their deaths. The ultimate goal of the game is to solve the mystery and expose the true killer by gathering enough evidence from different crime scenes.
To play in the story stages, players will need to consume energy, which is a resource that replenishes over time as long as the bar isn’t beyond the maximum capacity. Each stage is unlocked by fulfilling any or all of these requirements: number of stars, account level, and clues gathered. Players can increase the stars on a stage by completing it multiple times. The faster and less errors the player makes when solving the puzzle, the higher the star value given after completion.
The Island is like a minigame in June’s Journey. The player has the option to upgrade and maintain the island by purchasing and placing different structures, decorations, and critters in it. Players can acquire these by participating in events or purchasing them directly at the shop for an amount of currency that they earn by completing stages in the main story. Players also have the option of upgrading the mansion itself by collecting items that are needed for construction.
The main purpose of the island is to give players a way to enjoy the game outside of just solving puzzles. In addition, placing decorations around the island awards account experience, which levels you up after collecting a certain amount. Leveling up is a requirement for unlocking new stages. You can’t gain experience anywhere else other than by placing decorations around your island so it’s a good idea to save up on coins as early as possible to level up your account consistently.
Character Portraits
Portraits are collectible items that can be acquired randomly by completing various stages in the main story. Players will be required to collect a certain number of portraits in the game before they can unlock a part of that character’s backstory in the game. Once a certain number of portrait parts are collected, the player will be able to play a special minigame where they have to assemble the portrait pieces to unlock the final image that will be displayed in the photo album.
Whenever players unlock a portrait, they will receive rewards such as refilling the energy bar. Players may want to delay assembling their portraits until they are really low on energy and are looking to play more games otherwise the energy they get might get wasted. Some character portraits can only be acquired after finishing a specific part of the main story. As the player progresses through the story, they’ll be able to unlock new characters and collect more portraits.
The Objective
Moving to the hidden objects part of the game, we’ll be looking at the main objective on how to win. The game is pretty simple: find all the items that are on the list. Players can only redeem items that are currently on the list so even if a specific item appears later, you won’t be able to claim that item unless it’s on the list. Once all of the items on the list have been found, the game ends and the player will be assigned points depending on how fast they finished it and how many errors they committed to doing so.
The ultimate objective that players need to keep in mind is finishing the puzzle with the highest amount of points possible. Committing errors, slow pick-up speed, and using hints all decrease the number of points that a player can acquire. However, if you’re not the type of player that cares too much about getting into the leaderboard and likes to play the game for the story, you don’t have to worry about raising your points high enough to get yourself on the leaderboard.
Leaderboards
Speaking of leaderboards, June’s Journey features this mechanic to motivate players to become more serious in trying to complete puzzles. We’ve already mentioned the different ways a player can lose points when completing the puzzle, but we haven’t mentioned how you can increase it. The main way to increase points is to activate the points modifier, which is done when you find two or more items in quick succession.
The leaderboards don’t really do anything aside from placing your name permanently at the top of the list. This is a good way to enjoy the game when you’ve already finished everything that you need to do and want to train your reflexes to react faster. Also, we’ve mentioned that finishing puzzles quickly makes it easier to collect star masteries that are needed to unlock new stages in the game.
To earn more Flowers and increase your Flower level, you must improve Orchid Island. Build or upgrade buildings, decorate with decorations, or renovate landmarks to earn the Flowers you need to unlock the scene.
When you collect enough keys in the challenges, you will earn the first round of prizes. Keep playing to earn even bigger rewards, including 2 Compasses!
If a scene is still locked, your Flower level might be too low, or you might not have collected all clues in the previous scene. Or both. For example, to unlock Scene 3, you need to be Flower Level 3 and you must have found BOTH clues in Scene 2.
Now you can see that although this story is ending, there is a WHOLE NEW ADVENTURE waiting for you! The icon is called the Volume Browser, and now you can travel between different journals to play different time periods in June's life.
The Flower Mound Jail is a temporary detention facility where individuals are held pending release, arraignment, adjudication, or transfer to another facility. Typically, individuals being held at the Flower Mound Jail spend less than 72 hours at the facility.
Once you have opened every space on Orchid Island, you will have the ability to begin decorating Sunflower Island. 💛 The storage ship comes with you, and you are able to access the shop from there, making decorating seamless! And what to do with all this new space? That's up to you!
You shall not have more than one Account per platform or social network, at any given time, and shall not create an Account using a false identity or information, or on behalf of someone other than yourself.
To increase your level, you need Flowers. The amount of Flowers required to reach the next level is indicated by the number next to the Flower progress bar, in the top right corner when viewing your island.
You can find Compasses in Star Boxes, and sometimes they are awarded as bonuses for playing Hidden Object Scenes. They may also be purchased with Diamonds or real currency in special sales. They are quite rare however, so you may have to play for quite a while to collect them!
Conversation. Hello Lesley, these scores are possible through technique and skill, so these players are not cheaters. Also, we cannot have bots in the game as they cannot 'see' images. These scores are achievable with practice!
Snowdrop Island is the fifth island of the Orchid Archipelago that the player can access, after Orchid Island, Sunflower Island, Laurel Island and WIllow Island. It will be unlocked after those four islands are completely free from clouded areas.

FYI, the number of flowers needed is least for the second level in each chapter and goes up each level approx 100-170 flowers each time, then back down again when you reach the second level of the next chapter. You can go back and play any of your previously mastered scenes.
You get one of these special 5-Star Boxes when you "master" a scene by getting the fifth Star. Like regular Star Boxes, you won't know what's in a 5-Star Box until you open it. But it MIGHT contain: Lots of Coins.
Earn Stars by playing Hidden Object Scenes. In each scene, you can earn up to 5 Stars by playing the scene over and over. As you earn more Stars, the following things will happen: The Adventure Scene at the end of the chapter unlocks.

The Traveler in Journey is from a race called the Rythulians and to unlock the White Robed version requires you to earn the Transcendence trophy. To acquire the trophy you need to find and collect all 21 glowing symbols in the game that extend the length of your scarf.
A Red Robe in Chapter Select starts with a Scarf length of two and a half symbols. Full Scarf length is reached upon collecting the first two symbols in the Tower level (again, assuming no skips and no losses).
