Blueberries can reverse memory loss (2024)

Blueberries can reverse memory loss (1)

Daily portions of blueberries can reverse memory loss, research has found.

Scientists claim this may be due to the high level of antioxidants, called flavanoids, found in the fruit.

These help fight disease and have been shown to stimulate regeneration within brain cells.

Volunteers who ate 300g of blueberries a day reported improvements in memory within three weeks.

The findings, published in the journal Free Radical Biology and Medicine, has reinforced the berry’s superfood status.

Dr Matt Whiteman, from Peninsula Medical School in Exeter, said the same results could be achieved by replacing half the amount of blueberries with other flavanoid-rich foods, such as apples, aubergines and blackberries.
