Appearance and Personality[]

Billy exhibits many narcissistic, sad*stic and predatory tendencies, which he displays through his insidious actions against Anne Shirley Cuthbert, Cole Mackenzie and other classmates. He also often mocked Gilbert Blythe for his friendship with Anne, and displayed unfriendly behavior after Gilbert's father dies. He's also prone to lying, as after breaking Cole's wrist, the schoolhouse window, and the writing group's clubhouse he neglects to take responsibility. He's seemingly very fond of his sister Prissy, and cared about her reputation to the extent of blaming Anne of spreading rumors about Prissy's alleged affair with the school teacher.

During his later teens, he exhibits psychologically abusive and sexually predatory behavior when he sexually assaults a classmate, and later spreads lies around the town that the individual in question was the initiator of the incident.

Billy has blond hair, a brutish face, and a stocky frame, however, he is the shortest among his male peers at school.

Story[]

Billy Andrews is one of the main antagonists in the series, and the school bully of Anne and Cole. Billy Andrews is the brother to Priscilla and Jane Andrews. He is shown to be misogynistic, rude, predatory, and a bully which causes most of his classmates not to like him.

When Anne is new to Avonlea, Billy taunts her by calling her a "bad dog" and making barking sounds at her. After a misunderstanding with his sister Prissy, Billy runs into Anne in the woods before school and intimidates her, saying that she's been a "bad little dog" and he's going to "teach her a lesson". This is interrupted by Gilbert, who defends Anne again later when Billy feels threatened by her intelligence at school. When Anne and Ruby bring food to the boys and men working on the Gillis house after it is partially destroyed in a fire, Billy is condescending and makes sexist remarks to both girls, while Gilbert is chivalrous and dismisses Billy's taunts. Billy also harasses the girls at school by lifting up their skirts, which is especially triggering for Anne due to her her past experiences at the orphanage.

While Cole is painting the set for the Christmas play, Billy stages an "accident," which leads to Cole falling off a ladder breaking his wrist and causing him to lose his drawing abilities. He later teases Cole and takes his clay at the schoolhouse, throwing it and breaking a window. He is seen teasing and pushing Cole in school, taunting him for his creative interests and his friendship with Anne. Billy is responsible for the destruction of Anne's clubhouse and Cole's sculptures that were positioned around it. Finally reaching a breaking point, Cole bursts into the schoolhouse and tackles Billy, causing Billy to burn his ear when he is pushed into the wood stove. Cole approaches Billy to apologize at the Andrews home, and the interaction highlights Billy's lack of thinking about his behaviors. Billy shows a small moment of penitence later when he is alone and has a chance to shoot a fox but doesn't.

Billy is described by his sister Jane as having "two left feet and they both smell awful". His sisters also reference him counting on fingers and toes. His father, Harmon, intends to have Billy run the farm's finances due to his gender, despite Prissy presenting herself as a much more qualified and capable manager.

Billy has a romantic relationship with Josie Pye which ends after he sexually assaults her and spreads sexual rumors about her during the county fair barn dance. Billy refuses to take any responsibility for his actions and instead calls Josie a 'baby' when she walked away from him at the scene. Despite the harm he causes Josie, the families dismiss the encounter and try to salvage their marital arrangement, though Billy is finally rejected by Josie after he tries to reconcile with her in private.
