April Blooms

Spring is our prime blooming season — featuring A Million Blooms!

In April you’ll find thousands of daffodils, tulips, cherry blossoms, magnolias, peonies, azaleas and spring ephemerals like Virginia bluebells.

Virginia Bluebells

Virginia bluebells orMertensia virginica have quite a following of fans. They are just one of many native spring ephemerals featured at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden. You’ll find a large collection of them in Flagler Garden.

Weigela

Weigela florida ‘Pink Princess’ is a showstopper with a profusion of blooms radiating out from the branches. You’ll find it in Flagler Garden.

'Tahiti' Daffodil

Narcissus ‘Tahiti’ features a tropical combination of yellow and orange in it bloom. You’ll find this beauty throughout the Garden.

Tulip Magnolia

The graceful blooms of the Magnolia × soulangeanaare highlight you’ll find throughout the Garden, particularly inFlagler Garden.

Weeping Cherry Tree

Bottle Brush

Fothergilla gardenii ‘Mount Airy’ adds texture to the landscape along the Cherry Tree Walk.

Woodland Poppy

The woodland poppy, celandine poppy or Stylophorum diphyllum loves the shady woodland areas of of Flagler Garden.

Sundance Magnolia

As you walk along the Main Garden Path, you will see Magnolia × ‘Sundance’ on the right-hand side. This beauty has a profusion of pale yellow blooms that seem to shimmer in the sunshine and make a striking impression against a deep blue sky. See if you can smell its magnificent fragrance in the air.

Azalea ‘Sunny-side Up’

Rhododendron x ‘Sunny-side Up’ is an Aromi hybrid azaleafeaturingtall bare branches with buds opening to yellow flowers. You’ll find it in Flagler Garden.

Lilac 'Palibin'

You will likely smell the heavenly fragrance ofSyringa meyeri ‘Palibin’ before you see it. The small star-shaped, clustered blooms seem understated compared to the the intense smell. The lilac features purple buds opening to conical lavender flowers. You’ll find it planted around many walkways inFlagler Garden.

Lady Banks Rose

What’s beautiful right now? The Lady Banks Rose!Rosa banksiae is a climbing, thornless rose and you’ll find it blooming in two locations in Grace Arents Garden — look for it on the Summer House and on the pergola in front of Bloemendaal House. Worth. The. Trip.
