“We believe that it’s vital for our family of investment professionals to have a wide variety of choices to offer their clients when helping them plan their financial futures,” imparts Gary Gordon, president of American Portfolios Advisors, Inc. (APA), AP’s registered investment advisor (RIA). “With the recent launch of the NPIM Impact Portfolios, the firm’s affiliated financial advisors have enhanced methods of tapping into new financial planning opportunities. Our hope is that they will be able to reach prospective clients and have new conversations with existing customers through these offerings.” (Image: NPIM Impact Investing Video Series available on AP's dedicated YouTube channel. Our hope is that they will be able to reach prospective clients and have new conversations with existing customers through these offerings.”

While many within the financial services industry counter that SRI means accepting lower ROI, American Portfolios Director of Investment Research Jessica Skolnick, CFA, counters that established research shows contrary to popular belief, investing apace with one’s values doesn’t have to mean sacrificing performance. “Studies show that ESG strategies don’t consistently under or outperform traditional investments over time. SRI is more than a fad; it’s where the future of investment is moving. Demand among investors, especially younger and female investors, is on the rise, creating a big opportunity for advisors who can offer ESG products designed for the retail investor. The NPIM Impact Portfolios, with minimums of just $25,000 to open an account, allow advisors to reach these demographics in a meaningful way.”

APA added NPIM to its existing Advisor’s Solutions program in 2015; NPIM provides an alternative to traditional, packaged advisory products, all while offering personalized service not found in today’s Web-based wealth management solutions. As an exclusive asset manager and fund strategist within the Nine Points Advisory Services Platform, NPIM applies a disciplined and consistent approach to asset allocation portfolio design. In keeping with this mission, the NPIM Impact Portfolios provide diversified exposure to U.S., foreign equity, fixed income and alternatives at five levels of risk to suit a broad range of client objectives. They are managed using the principles of Modern Portfolio Theory with small tactical shifts in asset class weightings to take advantage of current market conditions.

The NPIM Impact Portfolios use ETFs and mutual funds in combination. Mutual funds have a longer track record in ESG investment, and active managers can look beyond ESG scores to qualitatively understand a company’s policies. Most ESG-focused ETFs are new to the market, but are being supported by well-established firms with commitments to impact investing. The NPIM Impact Portfolios use ETFs when available to offset the higher cost and lower tax efficiency of the mutual funds. At present time, there are five Impact Portfolios available on the Nine Points Advisory Services Platform, including: NPIM Impact Income, NPIM Impact Income & Growth, NPIM Impact Growth & Income, NPIM Impact Growth and NPIM Impact Aggressive Growth.
