When you go up to a villager, you'll have two options: Trick or Treat. By giving them a piece of candy, you'll receive a piece of Spooky furniture, Spooky furniture Recipe, new reaction or Lollipop. If you choose not to give them candy, you will get tricked instead.

Trick - Get Paint Smeared On Your Face

ACNH | Halloween Guide - Event Rewards | Animal Crossing - GameWith (19)

Opting for Trick will get you a handful of paint directly to the face. Luckily, the first villager to do this will also give you a recipe for a mirror. Using the mirror will allow you to remove the face paint and return your face to its usual appearance!

What To Do When You Run Out Of Candy

Get Candy From Residents Inside Houses

ACNH | Halloween Guide - Event Rewards | Animal Crossing - GameWith (24)

If you walk into a resident's house and talk to them while wearing a costume (Jack's Robe works), they will give you one piece of Candy! This will be useful for trying to farm as many Spooky items as possible. This process is repeatable!

Get A One-Time Gift Of 3 Candies

If you talk to a villager who is outside & while you have 0 candies, they will give you a one-time gift of 3 candies! This does not appear to be repeatable.

Get Candy By Wearing A Jack Costume

ACNH | Halloween Guide - Event Rewards | Animal Crossing - GameWith (25)

Equip the Jack's Robe & Jack's Face items and then proceed to talk to a villager on your island. You will be rewarded with one piece of Candy! Note that you can only get one Candy per villager - leaving and entering a house won't reset this, as it's one-time only. You can get as many pieces of candy as you have villagers living on your island.
