A long weekend beckoned and the urge for a short vacation was really high. I guess that’s what the big cities do to people. The escape route towards the hills looked like the only salvation. One of my friends traveled with TravelTriangle recently on a weekend, and on his recommendation, I put forth the idea of trying river rafting, to my friends for our Rishikesh weekend trip.

Initially, my friends were a bit unsure about whether they’ll be comfortable with strangers in a group, because this was our first trip on our own. But after reading reviews, and considering the factor that this would be a safer option for six girls, we decided to take a chance on TravelTriangle.

After getting all the formalities done, for our weekend trip to Rishikesh we were asked to assemble at Akshardham. We boarded the bus with 20 or so other travelers on a night journey to Rishikesh.

Day 1: Trekking in Rishikesh and vintage songs on loop

We arrive at the Vatika Luxury Resort at 9 and soon enough were welcomed with a delicious and hearty breakfast. An hour after settling down in our various camp rooms, the camp organizers took us on a short walk from the resort to do some light adventure activities.

Post lunch, it was one of the best group of travelers staying overnight at the Vatika Luxury wanting to discover the picturesque avenues in and around Rishikesh. I was thrilled that a campsite organizer, (who was as keen as we were on exploring ) took a group of people to a waterfall that you can reach only by trekking. Our 2 days itinerary for Rishikesh included all the fun that we wanted to have on our little vacation.

After three hours, we decided to return from the refreshing nature hike, and wanted to jump in the pool straightaway after arriving. We spent an hour or so in the pool, unwinding, and then we went back to our rooms to get ready for the bonfire dinner and DJ night.

The bonfire and DJ night went incredibly well as we were humming on the beats, and dancing on some classics. We stuck around the bonfire after dinner, chatting and making new friends as the night went on. For me and a few more, the evening went on beyond midnight as I felt a good connection with the fellow travelers.

Day 2: Conquering my fear of white water rafting

The next morning, we woke up early, had breakfast, and got ready for the thrilling excitement of whitewater rafting. It was a time for us to challenge our mind and body on a gruesome challenge. The anxiety in the group was out in the open, it was building up to something massive.

We checked out of our hotel and moved with straight to Shivpuri, Rishikesh – the starting point for the 26km rafting. We hopped on our rafts and buckledup like horsem*n for the bumpy ride ahead. Right in the very first few minutes, I got the hang of maneuvering and started to enjoy.

Adventurous 1N/2D Friends Trip: River Rafting In Rishikesh

At the midpoint of the rafting course, we stopped at a cliff where we can jump from 25ft into still water. Looking back at the few hours of rafting, doing cliff jumping was a very bold call on my part. Not knowing swimming was definitely a concern, but I guess the enthusiasm of the trip got me totally involved.

As we endedour rafting at Laxman Jhula, the sense of achievement after completing rafting was immense. Tired, but not tired was the feeling that spread through the group. From Rishikesh, we boarded our bus to Delhi in the afternoon and then reached back home on the same night. Our Rishikesh weekend trip was surely a one of its kind experience that we will cherish for lifelong.
