9 High Paying Part Time Jobs To Free Up More Time - Dividend Income Investor (2024)

High paying part time jobs are in demand.

Technology is changing the world, and it’s having a big impact on the way we work.

Based on the amount of alternative job options out there nowadays, I’d say having more time now is in demand.

Because let’s face it, working 3 days per week is the perfect FI solution.

Benefits of High Paying Part Time Jobs

  • More balanced lifestyle with more free time.
  • More time for side-hustles.
  • More time for family and friends.
  • More time for self care.
  • A great Slow FI alternative to work less now.
  • Flexible schedules that change from week to week.
  • Lower levels of stress.

Criteria for High Paying Part Time Jobs Selection: Flexible hours, Low Barriers to Entry, High Pay

As a preface to my list of jobs, I wanted to further clarify the type of jobs on this list.

In short, these are jobs almost anyone can do, and they pay enough to afford working less hours.

These jobs don’t require much education or training, but they still pay $30 an hour or more, or they at least provide enough supplemental income to live off when combined with investment income. In other words, these jobs are ideal for slow FI.

Furthermore, these jobs are ideal because they’re all relatively easy and don’t require much homework. They allow you to prioritize your life first and work 2nd. And you can still reach financial independence through frugality, saving, investing, and being debt free.

Of course, these jobs are not for everyone. It’s perfectly fine to want a high ranking title and a long career.

But if you’re interested in slow financial independence and ways to have more time in life right now, these jobs will suffice.

Here are 9 high paying part time jobs to free up more time now:

Server

If you have natural born people skills and enjoy the restaurant industry, being a server is a great way to add more time to life.

Depending on the restaurant and location, there is tremendous opportunity to bring home a lot of income while working a flexible schedule.

If you have the skillset and ability to work long hours into the evenings, in a city like Toronto, you can bring home anywhere from $100 to $300 per night. Again, that depends on the restaurant and location.

But it sure is an awesome way to add extra money in your pocket, or it can be the perfect way to earn enough money to side hustle on your own business.

Bartender

This happens to be the only job on the list that requires some sort of learning. Because becoming a bartender requires your Smart Serve. Apparently it’s easy to get from what I’ve heard.

Once you have obtained your Smart Serve, bartending is a good option because you don’t need much experience or expertise to start doing it. And it can be lucrative in a much more relaxed environment than the office.

Similar to a server, depending on the location and times you work at, bartenders can take home $300 per night tax free.

It would honestly be a perfect way for me to make meaningful side hustle income to invest and grow the dividend business with my current job.

Retail Sales and Commission Jobs

If you’re skilled at sales, you’re probably already wealthy, because there is a lot of money to be made at sales.

I personally have experience working in retail sales for a communications company, Rogers. It offered a flexible schedule and the opportunity to earn more than minimum wage because of the commission it paid monthly. Now, in my case, I worked in a lower traffic city and I wasn’t full-time, so I was only earning around $30,000 per year. But a lot more can be earned in a bigger city such as Toronto.

It’s not impossible to find a sales job that allows you to earn $50,000 per year while working 4 days a week. Income from a sales job could be combined with with other income streams to have more time now.

Municipal, Provincial, Federal Customer Service

There are plenty of high paying part-time jobs within the government. And if they are not completely part-time, they are often still less hours than the typical 9-to-5.

Depending on your experience, you could apply for a customer service role within your city. They pay well based on what I’ve seen on indeed.ca, and I know through a relative that worked for the municipal government for more than 20 years that they offer fantastic long careers with benefits and a pension.

In addition to building up income streams on the side, you can earn a high hourly wage helping out your government and also build up a pension. They are also a fantastic option for parents, because these type of jobs usually offer good benefits.

Uber or Door Dash Driver

I know, I know… You’re thinking this isn’t a high paying part-time job.

But it is in a way, because you can earn enough to support yourself if you work enough. And the work is still more flexible.

With no debt and a few other income streams, this might be an ideal career.

I even reached out to someone I know that is a driver to inquire about it for the sake of this post. I was even interested in the concept of buying a car in order to become an Uber Driver. If the extra income covers the payments, insurance, and gas, it might make sense.

At the very least, it is the perfect extra side hustle to make more money.

Another source told me:

“I earned an extra $1,000 in 4 weeks”

This was through Door Dash as a side hustle. If he can reach triple digits doing it on the side with a full-time job, I’m sure it’s possible to double that.

Consultant

Of course, you must gain enough experience on a subject to become an expert at it to become a consultant. But once you have gained that experience, you can charge a high hourly rate for consulting services.

The upside is that you can choose who you work with and how much you work. The downside is that there will be times when working extended hours is required. Also, as in an entrepreneurial endeavorer, there could be times without income at all.

Anyways, I’ll keep this point short because I don’t have any consulting experience yet.

Photographer

I’ve always liked cameras and taking photographs.

Shortly after purchasing a camera, I became emphatic about photography. It was all I wanted to do and I became obsessed with it.

I even started to incorporate photography more into the blog, and I even received some compensation for promoting a photography product.

At the peak, I started thinking about offering photography as a service. I did a small amount of research and discovered photographers often earn a lot of money.

Now, obviously it’s not easy. There are photography courses and there is a lot of equipment needed to become a professional. But with a personal desire to learn and a small investment, it could become one of the high paying part time jobs we are seeking.

Blogger

Although I’m not earning enough from blogging to consider it a high paying part-time job myself, for many bloggers out there, it is a high paying part-time job.

I also had to include it on the list because I am aiming to become more professional with blogging. For it to become a career, I must believe it is a career option. And it truly is, if you put the work into it and come up with interesting content.

The only problem with blogging income is that it can be inconsistent, and not all bloggers generate enough page views to earn income early on. Every blogger’s journey is different. But it’s not like you can just quit your job and expect to become a full-time blogger. It’s not that simple, however, it certainly is possible to earn money from blogging.

Freelance Writer

By building up a portfolio of writing online, it’s possible to become a Freelance Writer nowadays.

You can either write your own content and market a services page, or you can apply for freelance writing jobs on job boards.

Similar to the Uber/Door Dash Job, it’s not necessarily a high paying part time job, but it can be.

It’s possible to charge extremely high rates once you have a portfolio of writing built up. But on the downside, some of the early jobs may only pay $50. It’s still good money if you’re a fast writer and you’re willing to work. It really takes determination.

I’ve done one or two freelance writing jobs and found that it was an excellent way to earn side hustle money.

High Paying Part Time Jobs – Concluding Thoughts

The point of this post was to compile a list of high paying part time jobs to free up more time than the 9-to-5. Slow FI through part-time jobbing is a real option. It just depends on what you want from a career.

Also, I must give credit to Alana for this post. Her comment is what inspired the post. Alana, a recent commenter on the post about creating ways to have more time before FI, made a fantastic point and asked me to list a few examples of high paying part-time jobs.

Since mini-retirements and part-time jobs have seemingly become my specialty, my immediate response to Alana’s comment was that it would make a great blog post.

Although the jobs listed in this post are not all explicitly part-time, they are all jobs that provide relatively high pay, schedule-flexibility, and typically less hours than your regular 9-to-5.

There’s also something to be said about hourly paid jobs vs. salaried positions. Personally, I find hourly paid jobs more satisfying because it feels like you have to hustle for your money. But I must admit, I miss the smooth financial planning that comes with a salary.

In conclusion, since working part-time has provided so much extra time and balance in my life, I wanted to share a few ideas of high paying part time jobs that could do the same for you.

I hope these 9 high paying part time jobs add more time to your life and help you reverse the crush
