As far as gamers are concerned, every resident of The Lands Between is morally unscrupulous. Elden Ring, like prior FromSoftware games heralded by Hidetaka Miyazaki, boasts a bitter, crumbling world, full of characters that would rather stab The Tarnished in the back than offer them a helping hand.

Aside from the obviously devious intentions of invaders, there are a handful of characters in Elden Ring that have committed, or intend to commit, vile deeds that can shake even the most avid seeker of evil game endings. Some have set out with the player as their target, while others have unleashed their malice on the other characters occupying The Lands Between.

7 White Mask Varre Desires Sacrifices For His Master

• First Encountered - Limgrave (Near The First Step Site of Grace)

He may appear as an innocent guide upon the player's first visit to Limgrave, but Varre hides much more sinister intentions, and loyalties. Power-hungry and persuasive, Varre wants to usher in the power of his master Mohg through ritualistic sacrifices that will empower the demigod, and allow the Two Fingers to be slain.

However, Varre himself doesn't seem to hold much deeper intentions than that. As the simple servant of an evil being, his nature is one of inferiority, driven by a desire to ascend from an underprivileged upbringing into something greater. It made him easily manipulated and set the events of his blood-filled questline into motion.

6 Rykard's Quest For Honor Descended Into A Lust For Power

• First Encountered - Volcano Manor (Near Audience Pathway Site of Grace)

Once a Prince, Rykard was one of the original demigods of The Lands Between, but unlike most of his peers, was disgusted by the power and its wielders, and strongly rejected The Golden Order and the Greater Will, believing no one should be oppressed by them. He isolated himself near Mt. Gelmir, where he remained content until he discovered the serpent god Eiglay.

When Eiglay devoured the demigod, the two fused into a power-hungry beast that believed devouring warriors who approached him would make them part of his collective and help extend his life for all eternity. This selfish behavior made him a monster, as well as one of the game's bosses.

5 Godrick The Grafted Gets His Name From His Gruesome Behavior

• First Encountered - Stormveil Castle (Near Secluded Cell Site Of Grace)

One of the first demigods encountered by players, Godrick is a very distant relative within the Golden Lineage of Queen Marika, and as a result, a very diluted royal who was viewed as a runt. Obsessed with increasing his power, Godrick retreated into Stormveil Castle, where he began experimenting with dark arts that gave the Shardbearer his disturbing name.

Godrick practiced grafting, a gruesome practice where body parts are attached to oneself to gain power. What's even more evil are Godrick's Grafted Scions; guards who have had multiple limbs grafted onto them like their creator. From the youthful look of the faces, it seems, most disturbingly, that Godrick grafted the extra body parts onto children.

4 Preceptor Selvius Egotism Hides His Sickening Trade

• First Encountered - Caria Manor (Ranni's Rise In Spectral Form)

A pompous know-it-all who openly disdains The Tarnished, Selvius' evil is expertly hidden through his alliance with Ranni the Witch, a fan-favorite character in Elden Ring. On the surface, Selvius seems to simply be a brat who believes themself superior to the player, but the further one gets through his quest, the more apparent it becomes he is hiding a disturbing secret.

Selvius is an expert at making "puppets," beings fed a draught that paralyzes them for his sick pleasure. Selvius tasks the player with using such a draught on Nepheli Loux, and if the player complies, they can find her in his basem*nt following the quest. It's a telling sign that no matter how the player interacts with Selvius and his quests, he will always end up dead.

3 Mohg Is Easily The Most Villainous Demigod

• First Encountered - Mohgwyn Palace (Near Dynasty Mausoleum Midpoint Site Of Grace)

To know Mohg's title, The Lord of Blood, helps to show why this shardbearer is the worst of the bunch. The unholy master of Varre, Mohg, alongside his brother Morgott, was born without the blessings of The Erdtree, and as a result, was banished to the underground to spend their days. Here, Mohg made contact with a powerful Outer God who blessed him with the potent abilities of bloodflame.

To take power for himself, Mohg stole his half-brother Miquella and imprisoned his dormant form in The Lord of Blood's palace, hoping to become his consort and rule alongside the god. To enact this, he murders Miquella and hopes to slowly revive him with his dark powers, so they may rule together.

2 Dung Eater Commits Evil For Evil's Sake

• First Encountered - Roundtable Hold

The Loathsome Dung Eater is a truly horrifying monster in Elden Ring, worshipping a chaotic Outer God that seeks nothing short of total destruction. Upon first meeting the player, Dung Eater seems to be open about his sickening nature, discussing this with the player in a room full of corpses. As the game goes on, Dung Eater's lust to kill is revealed to have a much greater, and more evil, implication.

Dung Eater, far from simply ending the lives of his victims, inflicts Seedbed Curses on his victims, preventing their souls from reaching and communing with the Erdtree. This means they are unable to find peace and rest, forever doomed to wander. On top of this, Dung Eater intends to afflict the entirety of The Lands Between with this curse, ensuring the endless chaos that he so proudly initiated.

• First Encountered - Only By Those Who Embrace The Frenzied Flame Ending

It could be an Outer God or simply a power wielded by one, but The Frenzied Flame remains one of Elden Ring's most evil creations. The supposed master of Dung Eater, The Frenzied Flame seeks to return The Lands Between to a state of primordial chaos and desires servants who will commit a monstrous sin.

To reach its goal, The Frenzied Flame attempts to persuade The Tarnished, through agents of its will, to burn The Erdtree. This world-shattering act would surely decimate The Lands Between irretrievably, and so no matter how evil the demigods or The Tarnished of Elden Ring are, it is this chaotic force that will inevitably do the most damage.
