But as you might've already seen in our earlier publication on the subreddit 'DontFundMe', when you're desperate, you don't worry about such a minuscule "tax."
Beggars continue pleading for money on the internet, so we decided to see which of their attempts were spotted by the online community, and let's just say that they are just as sad, funny, and infuriating as they've ever been.

Crowdfunding has seen many outrageous successes during its rise in the consumer products industry. Everything from the Pebble Watch to the Coolest Cooler and evenpotato saladhas been funded successfully on Kickstarter, giving people hope that anyone can be a winner. However, according to Fundera, theaverage success rateis merely 22.4% of crowdfunding campaigns across all platforms. (If you look individually at Kickstarter, itgoes up slightlyto just over 37%.) And as we can see in the pictures, there's a whole bunch of people dragging down the figure.

The thing is, GoFundMe started out as people asking for money for fun, personal projects, and trips. It became America's largest independent medical insurance company, because we live in a dystopian nightmare because it is the job of medical insurance companies to deny your claim.

The ones I've donated to have been friends with cancer (American healthcare system sucks) friends with pets that needed thousands of dollars in surgery since that's all out of pocket, and to help finance friends with movie projects or bands. I always know the people personally.

I seriously don't understand how some of these got donated to. The only time I attempted a GoFundMe was when my ferret needed vet care that I was 600 dollars short on. Didn't get a single donor. Not that I really expected to because I am sure there are far more desperate campaigns then mine. That being said I know my sick ferret was more worthy than the above. My running theory is I am unlikable, especially on the internet.

Unless you have a really good sob story that can go on the news (like the one where these small kids wanted to save their horse and needed to pay a few k to send it out across a few states for surgery) otherwise your just begging for money from friends and family. In a lot of ways, unless you can go viral or have a large social media presence, it's very similar in effect to working for a MLM. You have no choice but to work your way through friends and family.
