Smartphones aren’t just for talking these days. They can also help you make money. Check out these great work-from-home apps.

Microtask Apps

Swagbucks TV – Watch up to 50 videos per day on your phone to earn Swagbucks. You can also earn SB when completing surveys, searching online and more. These SB will be deposited in your regular Swagbucks account that you can later redeem for cash by PayPal, gift cards or prizes.

Shopkick offers a number of ways to earn “Kicks.” You can collect Kicks for checking in at a store, making a purchase through one of their featured deals or scanning and entering prices of certain items at a particular store. One thing I really like about this app is that in addition to earning Kicks for checking in at say JCPenney, there may also be an in-store coupon available on the app that will earn me additional Kicks if I redeem it. I love a good coupon! Especially when they show up on my phone.

Jingit allows you to earn money watching ads and taking surveys. Redeem your cash to a Jingit Visa debit card, bank account or purchase eGift Cards from Jingit partners.

Slidejoy will also pay you for watching ads. When you unlock your smartphone you will have the opportunity to engage an ad. This one is only available for Android users.

EasyShift is only available to iPhone users and pays you for completing small tasks, or Shifts. Each Shift pays $2 to $20 and is paid within 48 hours of completion.

HealthyWage is an awesome opportunity to earn extra money if you are trying to lose weight. Place a “bet” on whether you will lose and how much. If you meet your goal, you get paid. Some people have earned over $4,000 while staying accountable and motivated to lose weight.

Like earning cash watching advertisem*nts and filling out short surveys? Here are a few more legitimate apps to download.

30 Work from Home Apps to Help You Make Money (1)Money-Saving Apps

Saving money is just as good as making money in my book.

Ebates is one of my favorite extra money-makers ever.Earn cash back for online purchases. They also have one of the most lucrative refer-a-friend programs around.

RedLaseris a cool app in that it can find you the best price around before you make that purchase. And it checks retailers both online and on a local level.

RetailMeNotis another site I use often. They list some of the best coupons for online retailers around. Their app will allow you to find coupons that can be redeemed in-store. It will also alert you of any nearby sales.

Coupons.comalso you to linkup all of your store loyalty cards so you can just show the cashier your smartphone as opposed to digging through your wallet for the physical card. You can also load digital coupons to your cards.

Gas Buddy – This one has been around years, starting out as a website only. The app finds the cheapest gas near your location.

Target Cartwheel – This one only works at Target but it allows you to scan items to check for special offers.

Money-Making Shopping Apps

SavingStar – I love this app and have been using for a year or two. It links to your store loyalty cards so no scanning receipts when you get home. They call their savings eCoupons – and they look like coupons – but you are really getting cash back as opposed to saving at the register. You can get your cash by PayPal, bank deposit, Amazon gift card or charity donation.

In addition to SavingStar, I have several other grocery shopping apps on my phone that operate in the same manner. These require that you scan your grocery store receipt. It only takes a few seconds however, and that cash back adds up quickly. And, you don’t have to pick just one! Use them all on every trip for maximum impact.

  • Ibotta
  • Walmart Savings Catcher
  • Nielsen Homescan
  • Receipt Hog

Mystery Shopping Apps

Mobee – I have a love/hate relationship with Mobee. I love them because they offer Starbucks shops (I’ll happily allow them to help cut down that bill). I hate them because they apparently “can’t read your location” when I’m at home. I’m one of those crazy planner people, so that irks me to no end.

Mobee has more of a community-feel and you can participate in challenges to earn additional points.

GigWalk – Most of what has been available to me through the GigWalk app has been store audits paying around $10. I have passed on these so far as I much prefer “mystery shopper” activities as opposed to having to check-in with customer service to tell them what you are doing there, etc. This one pays only by PayPal.

FieldAgent – This is a simple app that allows you to find and complete jobs from your smartphone. I live in rural Nebraska and there are shops and audits available to me in the city I get my groceries. That’s convenient. The jobs typically pay $2-$15. You won’t make a killing here, but you could pick up a few extra bucks while running your usual errands. Payments are made via PayPal or Dwolla.

iSecretShop– If you have ever been a mystery shopper, you are going to love this one. Many of the major players have their shops listed in this app. That makes it great for grabbing shops on the go – when you ready, willing and remember. 😉 I also love that this one allows you to choose “Back Up Jobs,” which are already claimed by someone but you can be put on the list should they back out. You can search for jobs Near Me and Near Home. Don’t forget to fill out the Extended Profile and accept the MSP Agreements for the companies you want to work with.

Rewardable – Take a pic or answer a few questions while doing your grocery shopping to earn a few extra bucks.

Manage Your Finances

Most banks today have an app available to customers for checking balances on the go. I also recommend the following for staying in the know regarding your big picture financial plans.

  • Mint.com
  • Award Wallet – this nifty tool helps track those credit card rewards, frequent flyer miles and more. How cool is that?!

This tip isn’t an app, but do you know where you are throwing money away? Take this 7-day challenge from Brightpeak Financial to find out.
