Should You Avoid Healthy Foods That Contain Arsenic?
On today’s episode of Live Lean TV, I’m talking about 3 foods and drinks containing higher levels of arsenic.
Should you still eat them?
Let’s find out.
A study out of Dartmouth College showed today’s diets are becoming a bigger contributor to overall total arsenic exposure.
The increase of arsenic in our foods and drinks may be attributed to:
- pesticides
- dirty water
- unhealthy soil
Unfortunately, this means we’re consuming more arsenic via the foods we eat and the liquids we drink.
What Is Arsenic?
Arsenic is a well known carcinogen, meaning it is capable of causing several types of cancer.
Although low levels of arsenic haven’t been shown to cause immediate health problems, consistent over consumption of these 3 arsenic loaded foods may cause issues in the long-term.
3 Foods And Drinks Containing Higher Levels Of Arsenic
The following 3 foods high in arsenic, actually include 2 well known health foods.
#1. Brussels Sprouts
This one may surprise you.
Yes, the cruciferous vegetable, brussels sprouts.
It seems the inorganic arsenic in the soil is attracted to the sulphur compounds in this health food.
However, before you start celebrating that you don’t have to eat brussels sprouts anymore, keep reading as I give you my 2 cents on this, in just a little bit.
#2. Alcohol
This one is not as shocking as the last one, right?
Arsenic was found to be especially higher in:
#3. Dark Meat Fish
Dark meat fish has been shown to be high in arsenic due to the arsenic that naturally exists in seawater.
Arsenic naturally exists in the following types of dark meat fish:
- bluefish
- mackerel
- salmon
- sardines
- swordfish
- tuna
Bottom Line Live Lean Nation
I wanted to share this video post for 2 reasons.
- First reason: It’s good to be informed of this stuff.
- Second reason: I want to be clear that I do not want this stuff to freak you out or stop you from completely eating these foods.
I also do not want you to become one of those over obsessed health freaks, that is scared to eat food.
Orthorexia is an actual medical condition when you have an unhealthy focus and obsession on eating in a healthy way.
This is no way to live your life.
I Mean, Let’s Be Real
We have to eat something, and unfortunately we can only control so much.
With that said, I still classify brussels sprouts and dark meat fish, as Live Lean approved foods.
These are much better options than the highly processed foods most people eat.
So rather than throwing your hands up in the air, because you don’t know what to eat, I still recommend you eat brussels sprouts and dark meat fish, and so do the researchers in the study.
The advise is it may be better to eat these foods occasionally, rather than every single day.
Let’s be real, who actually eats brussels sprouts every day?
It’s a well known issue that our water and soil, and the pesticides being sprayed on our food crops, are making even the most healthy foods, like brussels sprouts and fish, less healthy.
It’s a shame, but it’s reality.

I forgot, something I feel everybody should add, along with lemon water, is braggs apple cider vineger, . Lemons and apple cider vinegar with the mother will keep your body clean , regulates ph balance. With air pollution, pesticides and other chemicals we are exsposed to ,. We need constant natural detoxification. Please research the benefits. Of lemon and cider vinegar. Lemon alone is excellent. I have a long way to go and lots of weight to lose but I feel much more healthy. And gives me more energy to keep going.
I know first hand the poison in our fruits and vegetables. They say there is minimal traces. This is not true. Since I was a child I was allergic to, tomatoes, watermelon, cantaloupe, kiwi, bananas, avocado, cherry tomatoes, those cute baby carrots, carrots, cucumbers and more. Some gave me mild itchy tongue and throat, some would causd my throat to swell. I’m now 40, it wasn’t until 4 years ago I discovered it wasn’t all the fruits or vegetables,. I’m allergic to sulphur, sulpha, and sulphuric acids, … these are the main ingredients in the pesticides. Yes small amounts because I’m deathly allergic. On a sulpha based antibiotic I ended up in ER. Not everybody thats allergic to sulpha is allergic to sulphur base ingredients. Lucky me I am. This just goes to show , it may be small amounts but in years of consumption this can have toxic effects. My advice buy from local farmers market even better grow your own with natural pest begone. Nematoads are excellent .
Hey Brad. Love your stuff.
I don’t see the research you’re referring to linked anywhere (entirely
possible that I’m blind and overlooked it). Can you cite your source on
this stuff? Would love it. Cheers!Great content as always but I love the humor in this one! ?

Hi Brad, have you ever heard of coconut sugar? I saw this product at the
organic section at the supermarket – I think the brand was “Big Tree” –
was just wonder your take on it as an alternative over cane sugar ?Alcohol high in Arsenek? Dang!
I eat Brussel Sprouts 4-5 times a week. I like it. No I don’t freak out
with a study. There is a study on something every week. I wait and
research first. When the documentation starts to pile up then I either
stop it or start it, depending on the research. Again, only when there is
ample studies done. You said it exactly how I live my life. You can only
control what you can control. You can research yourself to starvation.
You do have to step back and do what you can control. Keep it real and
keep it simple people. Thanks for the vid.I don’t stress about it.. If your that worried about it, better invest into
a garden ?I don’t eat brussels sprouts, I rarely drink alcohol and I eat these types
of fish like 3 times a week.I can’t shop organic, but I shop as healthy as possible, and I feel great.
No soda, no fast food, lots of water. God bless our food, and eat as
healthy as you can. I threw my hands up along time ago. The stress and
worry of pesticides was causing me more harm.I eat probably a can of tuna a day on average…should i really think about
cutting back, or are there other options? Or is it not that big of a deal?
Idk…..Nope.
The funniest video so far, good job and thanks for this useful info!
I could totally eat Brussels sprouts every single day.
Based on this info, will you eat less of these healthy foods?
