1967 Rickenbacker 450 Vintage Electric Guitar Fireglo Toaster Pickups 100% Stock Clean w/ OHSC | Reverb (45)

Seattle, WA, United States

Up for sale, a 1967 Rickenbacker 450 in excellent condition and in good working order. 100% original and very well cared for since new, this guitar features its stock Fireglo finish, toaster top pickups, and silver Rickenbacker hardshell case. You simply can't beat the chime, sparkle and fullness of the original Rickenbacker Toaster pickups and this guitar is a prime example of Rickenbacker's classic 1960s tone! The neck through body construction, hardtail bridge and single compensated aluminum bridge saddle all add up to a Ric that has a surprising amount of sustain and resonance, even when strummed acoustically. Much less common than the twelve string variety, this six string 450 is featherweight at only 6lbs 9oz, and plays extremely well with low action. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with low action and a fresh set of strings, this Rickenbacker is ready for the stage and studio.

The maple neck has a medium C profile, and much of the neck profile's depth is due to the generous depth of the slab rosewood fretboard. The original frets are intact and show virtually no wear, having undoubtedly been professionally dressed and crowned, but still retaining virtually all of their original height. The original fretboard lacquer shows some small chips and signs of wear above the 12th fret, but nothing that impedes playability. On the headstock, the plexiglass Rickenbacker logo is in great shape and the original double line Kluson Deluxe tuners are intact, turning smoothly and holding pitch as they should.

On the body, all of the electronics work as they should, with original CTS pots and blue molded Ajax tone caps. Both Toaster pickups have strong and balanced output and the pickup height has been adjusted so as to give the best blend in the middle position. The bridge plate has a "GF" stamp, dating the instrument to June of 1967. The bridge has lots of height left for future adjustment and this Rickenbacker plays incredibly well and sounds every bit as good as any vintage Ric we've had in the shop!
Cosmetically, the guitar is in fantastic shape, with only light wear to the chrome hardware on the bridge saddle, and pickup covers and bridge plate that have plenty of shine left. The nitro lacquer Fireglo finish is vibrant and unfaded, with a deep yellowish/orange shade in the center of the burst and prominent birdseye figuring on the back of the instrument. Under the pickguard the original "450" and "FG" hand written notes are legible in the control cavity, denoting the model and factory finish. There is one scratch on the face of the guitar on the bass side lower bout, and some moderate finish scratches and nicks on the back that do not go through the finish. Otherwise, the guitar has been very well cared for over the decades with no breaks, cracks, or repairs of any kind.
The original silver hardshell case with blue plush interior and black leather ends is included. The case is in good overall shape, with original handle and two working outer latches.

FAQs

What is the scale length of a Rickenbacker 450? ›

Where were Rickenbacker guitars originally made? ›

Prior to The Beatles, all Rickenbacker guitars had been made at the original Electro String factory in Los Angeles. Who popularized the 12 string Rickenbacker? ›

After George Harrison used it on The Beatles' "A Hard Day's Night," a 12-string craze began. The most notable adopter of the instrument was Jim (later Roger) McGuinn , who used it to define the sound of The Byrds on tracks like "Mr. Tambourine Man" and "Turn! Turn!

The Hi-Gain bridge pickup is of a more conventional design than the horseshoe pickup. The bridge pickup also features a removable metal bridge cover designed to emulate the look of the original horseshoe magnets. Rickenbacker also produced six-string and 12 string guitars and a short-scale bass, the 3000 model.

What was Rickenbacker's nickname? ›

Rickenbacker was now a national racing figure, earning the nickname "Fast Eddie". One sportswriter called him "the most daring and...the most cautious driver in America today." The top-ranked Peugeot team lured Rickenbacker away from Duesenberg at the start of 1915.

What is the nickname of the Rickenbacker guitar? ›

Nicknamed the "Frying Pan" because of its shape, it was also the first solid body guitar. It was invented and designed by George Beauchamp and then manufactured and marketed by the Rickenbacker Company. The "Frying Pan" utilized a 1/12 inch horseshoe electro-magnetic pickup.

RICKENBACKER IN THE 70'S & BEYOND

They were, after all, supposed to be the go-to guitars for psychedelic, jangly music. But before the decade was over, one of the most important bands to come out of the punk scene came to its rescue: Paul Weller would use a Rickenbacker 330 as his main instrument in The Jam.

What type of music was the Rickenbacker best suited for? ›

Heavy-gauge flatwound strings (like Pyramid . 012-. 052) are also a critical element of Lennon's Rickenbacker 325 Capri setup. Because the 325 has a short 20-inch scale length, modern lighter gauge slinky strings are too floppy and loose.
